Need help! Bad grinding noise from starter?
« on: February 21, 2010 - 10:01:04 AM »
I'm finally getting real close to getting my 'Cuda up and running, but I came into another problem - of course.

I turned over the engine yesterday and I heard a loud grinding noise. It sounds like its coming from from the starter when its engaging.
I'm running a 440 with a Powermaster XS Torque mini starter and a Keisler 5 speed. Do I have the correct starter? Or is it something else?

Kyle.

Does that stater have the 1" alignment "guide" that pilots into the bellhousing?

I'm not sure, what does it look like? It bolted right on, I did'nt see anything else but the starter in the box.

It's a 1" diameter snout that goes into a pilot hole inside the bellhousing that sets the sets the distance from the flywheel to the starter.  The factory starters all have them.
