Good Chrome Shop?
« on: February 21, 2010 - 11:15:11 AM »
I need to get the pair of front bumpers for my '70 Superbee project rechromed and most of our chrome shops here in the NW are gone. they're going to be easy to ship so it doesn't reall matter where they go, anyone know of a place that does good quality work and a reasonable price? I don't care if they're the cheapest but some places seem like they're kind of a rip off compared to others.

It's frustrating, but all the small shops are closing up because of environmental concerns. It's tough finding someone in the same area code or State.   :pullinghair:

I have no experience with this place, but I see them advertised...

Be careful with anyone you choose. Tricity ruined a pair of bumpers on a 70 Buick GS we restored a couple of years ago. They straightened the bumpers too much. Never could get them to fit the car right. The better the core, the better off you are.

I used North Star Plating in Brainerd Mn. back in 2001 and the results were fantastic the Cuda's front and back bumper were $260 each. The phone numbers I have are     1-800-432-3720  or 1-218-829-6324. I was very happy with the service and turn around time. Heres a link to a Mopar Muscle article about North Star

Tri-City all the way.  We did buy a bumper from bumper boyz and it starting rusting soon after putting it on the car. :banghead:

The one from Tri-City is holding up good.   :2thumbs:

Many (very many) years ago I worked for Badger Bumper
This was the days when bumpers were all steel and could be straightend and replated.  We dealt with Northstar and Keystone. >Good customers always got the Northstar. The plating was always better, because of the nickle they used I was told anyway, that was so long ago I forgot about them. But they had great stuff back in the day.

I've seen these guys work in person and it looks top notch, and when I talked to them they seemed very knowlegable. They have done a lot of show cars including a fair amount of SEMA cars. When i get ready to do the bumpers on my Challenger this is who I am going to. They also do custom work as well. And one of the best parts is they do free pick up and delivery of your parts. And when we are talking about shipping large items like bumpers that can be a huge savings.

Can anyone give me a estimate on how much a front bumber will cost in straightinging and rechroming.  Now that i'm working again I can start working on my project again.

My bumpers were 260 each for in 2001 they were great shape when I sent them in.   I don't think they required any straighting just chrome thats a 2001 price
