Shandango...Ever get your loose caliper situation figured out?

Yes sir, I did.

Turns out it was thecheap hardware that came with the Duralast calipers.  I went out and bought Napa hardware and you could tell right away the difference in quality there....the Duralast hardware was very malleable...the Napa stuff was good spring steel.  No more noises from that!  :woohoo:  I am debating whether to take the hardware back to Autozone or not....on one hand it came with the caliper so essentially it was a freebie....on the other hand, I paid for the kit so maybe I should.....it cost me $13 for the new hardware....not a large amount of cash but its the principle....LOL

Seems to me, a fair bit of what you bought at AutoZone was less than stellar equipment, disc brake hardware, rear wheel cylinders...  Should think twice before buying from them again. :2cents:

I think this was covered earlier but bottom line is newer design to rear brake cylinders has negated the need for residual valves...by '73 they were no longer used.

yes, it was...slipped my mind between reading it, and then reading up on the valve...:)  I just replace the cylinders on my '73 so hopefully that is that

Thanks for repointing it out :)

Well, lets face it, all of the stuff these days is likely to be made in china.

I have actually bought a lot of stuff there and to have two items not pass muster, well, it happens I figure.

The brake hardware concerns me more than the cylinder...you can get a bum seal.....but for the hardware to be made from the wrong material (apparantly) well thats not right.

No kidding. Trying to find parts "Made in USA"  or "Made in Canada" seems close to impossible.
I always hear in the news about "We need trade agreements with China". I keep saying, "Why do we need to do that?" :dunno:

We do.....we need them to agree to stop flooding out mrakets with cheap crap.

I dont care where something is made (I would prefer it were US made of course)......but I want a quality product.

It has gottento the point where you cant even choose to pay more to get a better product.   :stomp:

The raybestos wheel cylinders I bought said made in the usa on the box and made in the USA was cast into the cylinder too! :2thumbs: They took forever to get them as one was in Montreal, and the other was out west somewhere the guy told me.I'm in Canada. I'm guessing they were old stock? And they were not cheap!!!!....don't ask! :walkaway:
But at least it wasen't China crap!!!

Well after driving this for a few miles, I gotta say manual brakes ....ummm take some getting used to? I never have had a car with manual brakes? I can see me looking into a hydaboost system sometime in the future?  It stops and all, just not as quick as what I'm used too?  :grinno:

LOL

It is "different" for sure after being a power brake driver for 26 years....but it isnt that bad really.

(I am secretly hoping to go to a hydro boost or similar setup myself...LOL)

They work, though.   I have had a couple panic stops and they are there when I need them.....seem to stop quickly enough....just have to give it some leg.

And now you know why power brakes were invented. I like manual brakes, but many think it takes too much effort. Good pedal feedback, excellent brake modulation, and the feeling of being "one" with my car are all worth it, in my book.

Hey Brads70....I have the same MC as you know.....how soon will it be before you drive that car?  I have some issues with the filler caps leaking brake fluid. :swear:  Wondering if anyone else is.  ruined my paint job on my one torsion bar.   :banghead:

Hey mine leak to! :faint: What did you do to cure this?

I had bought my MC from DrDiff,,,,and when I emailed him, he ended up sending me two from an OEM used master cyclinder....cured the leak.

Although every now and then I still get a tiny bit thru the rear, but not like before.

The kicker is that one  reason I went to the new style is cause I figured it would be less prone to leaks.

go figure...LOL

Ok thanks! What vehicle are they from? I'm figuring I'll keep an eye out at the wreckers if I knew what it came off of?
