Hood Pins
« on: February 27, 2010 - 12:23:18 PM »
What is the correct direction the hole on the hood pin post should be rotated?  Should it be rotated so that the pin is inserted directly in from the front or 90° so it is inserted from the side?

Also, I know hood pins originated from racing, but does anyone know the history on how they came about and why they were used instead of a convensional hood latch?

They came in the 1:30 - 4:30 - 7:30 - 10:30 rotation.  I just made mine square to the hood line.

Hmmm,  Not even unique side to side. If I had worked on the line, build my own personal car, they sure wouldn't have been installed like that.

The engineering drawings show them in from the front.

But, for whatever reason, some original examples do exist that are different.

Race car heritage let both lanyards he yanked from the front at the same time in an emergency like a fire, either to put it out or disconnect the battery to kill a source of ignition in a crash.

If they are in sideways or at an angle that would be tough to do.
