You would think I lived in the backwoods of Canada
« on: February 27, 2010 - 05:24:22 PM »
The last few days my backyard has been the home for all kinds of critters. First we had a red fox, then seven deer decided to hang out for about a half hour on Friday night. Then today we had a large bunch of geese drop by.
Here's the fox.

I live in the "back woods" of Canada and I see geese, dozens of deer, moose, bear, lynx, bobcat, martin, wolves, grouse, mink, and on and on. It's part of why I love living in the "Great White North"!! :2thumbs:

Where I live we have foxes but we regularly inject them with lead   :smilielol:  Wombats dig under all our fences and the Kangaroo's crush the fence getting into my wifes garden.

Wildlife is beautiful and fun to observe, but best stay away from that fox, they are nocturnal (sp?) and if he is out running around in the daylight he is probably sickened with rabbies, also keep your dogs away from him too. Best thing for him is a shot of lead. But I'd check with your states game warden, in our state they are protected but can be killed if they are rabbied.  :dunno:

The most bizarre thing happened to my brothers girlfriends father the other day. He was driving along the trans Canada highway on PEI and out of nowhere, he comes over a hill and hits a 400+lb SEAL! Was miles from the ocean, there is an investigation going on now, but somehow a seal made it a long way from the sea...lol. We don't have any other cool animals here though, wolves and foxes is about it....lol.

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy the animals. Except for the deer that strip my trees down in the fall during mating season. I wasn't real clear in my original post but I live inside the city limits of the small town I live in. I would probably be arrested if I shot that fox. It is against the law to discharge a firearm within city limits here.

On a side note, in yesterday's paper a property owner and his son were drinking coffee in the kitchen looking out through a sliding glass door at a couple deer about 50 yards from their house. Out of "no where" two coyotte run out of the woods and take down the smaller of the two deer killing it and start to feed on it. They run outside (?) and start yelling to scare off the coyotte, which they were successful in doing. Personally that is nature and we have an overabundance of white tail in this county, in fact for the past few years our county has had the most kills during deer seasons throughout the state. What makes this story so unusual is that it occured within the city limits and about (or less) a mile from the town square. The town is also the county seat and has the largest population within the county.
