Replacing a Leaky Rear Main with minimal disassembly...
« on: March 01, 2010 - 09:07:42 PM »
I've got the engine and trans out of the car, but I'm not planning to pull the engine down any further.  While it is out, I'm going to replace the rear main seal that I think is leaking.  Can the rear main be replaced without much more disassembly?

OK crap, now I see what you're saying I need to line both marks up one with the cam and one with the crank in the same sprocket. I still don't know if that's going to bring it to TDC but it's going to help, I don't know why this took so long to sink in but many thanks for your help.

I'll give it a try and report back.

you would need to get under the engine , remove the pan & rear seal plate , you will need to push the top of the seal over the crank to remove it & replace the lower part of the seal

Please don't let it hang over you while you work on it! Put it on a stand properly...
