« on: March 02, 2010 - 12:57:51 PM »
Is anyone using the Edelbrock 7177 camshaft for their small block?  Do you like/hate it?  Would you recommend it?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!!

Mike

I'm running it in my 340 (1970 340, in my 72 Challenger) and love it. I have 10.5:1 compression, slightly worked over X heads, Edelbrock performer rpm intake (1776), Edelbrock 750 carb with an electric choke (1411), Doug's ceramic coated headers (D453), 2000 stall in a 727 with 3.23 gears out back, and the car runs like a champ. My brother who has a 73 Challenger with a 440 is afraid to race me with. I haven't had it at the track yet or on a dyno, but the car really moves. I really want to install my 3.91's and see what it can really do, but there goes my highway speeds and I have a tendancy to go on 250 mile trips. Oh and on the freeway right now I am getting better than 16 mpg at 70 mph. I'm sure with some more tuning I can get the fuel economy even higher.

Edelbrock cams are decent, but they seem to be a little heavier on duration and light on lift as compared to the Lunati Voodoo series. For example, a Lunati 60403 has a .050" duration of 226/234 but with a lift .494/.513, VS  a .050" duration of 234/244 and a lift of .488/.510 for the edelbrock 7177. That will give the Lunati cam a better idle while also giving you better flow at the top end. If you want to keep the duration, a Lunati 60404 will give you a .050" duration of 232/242, but bumps the lift up to .513/.533. I may be biased though, I have a 60404 in my 340 that I have to finish putting together.

Edelbrock makes good cams, but I think the Lunati's have a better profile than the Eddy's do. But that's just my  :2cents:
