holes on bottom of block
« on: March 04, 2010 - 04:31:06 PM »
Can someone tell me what the holes are for on the passenger side of the block, on the bottom?  Is a 440 block and not sure if they are on all blocks or not???There are 2, one in front and one in the rear.  They are about 3/4" in diameter.  The one in the rear is next to the oil pan and the bell housing.  The one in the front is below the fuel pump.  Sorry I do not have any pics.  I will try and get some if noone chimes in.  Thanks.

I don't know about the hole in the back that you speak of, but the front hole should have a big Allen head plug in it. The purpose of that hole is to allow you to remove the pushrod for the fuel pump after you remove the fuel pump from the block. They do wear down over the years, so it just falls out that hole once the pump is removed.

I had to steal these pics from a Mopar Muscle article, but you can see in the pic the holes I am talking about.  They are outlined in a yellow ring.  You can only see the hole in the back of the block if you are under the car.  Thanks.

Thanks.  When I was under the car, I saw that hole and thought that I needed to put some type of plug in the rear one, that it might go all the way into somewhere???  I guess not though, Thanks.
