If I had A Dollar For Every Time....
« on: March 05, 2010 - 03:08:54 AM »
This afternoon, I went to the transmission shop to pick-up my Challenger RT, it had been there for a week getting the 727 re-built.  The owner is nowhere to be found, so I walk up to the manager.  He asks if he can help me and I say that I'm here to pick up my car.  He says, "Oh, the Charger?"  No, I answer back "The Challenger".   He says, "Challenger, Charger, hey they're all Mopars".

I get home a little while later and as I'm getting ready to pull in the driveway, some guy is walking along the sidewalk, taking his dog for a walk.  He stops and watches me pull up and as I get out of my car, he yells over "Hey, nice Charger".  I thank him and put it in the garage.

These are not the first times, I don't take my car out as much as I should, but at least once, if not twice on every outing, I get some comment about my "my Charger".

I guess I'm just used to it, but how many times a day does everyone else get asked that?

Me too.  Even my friends and family call it a Charger.  It's so bad I even called it a Charger once or twice.

Just people who are probably not car people ?  But how you confuse one from the other is  :clueless: , styling differences and the Charger is nearly half again bigger. It also probably goes back to the dippy show about the duke boys.   :villagers:

Yea i let a guy go on in front of his girlfriend ,he didnt know i owned the car ,but he was trying to impress his girl ",like this charger ",and his cousin  had a charger just like this, and after about 15 mins, i finally stepped in and said "its a challenger",

the dude had this look like he wanted to kill me , and actually wanted to argue with me , until i got in it and drove off,and his jaw was on the ground, and his girlfriend was shocked, some people just dont look at the fine details these cars have, and the dudes that say "ahh there all just mopars"have very narrow minds :violin: :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:

Must be a Challenger thing.     I don't get asked that too much. Had a girl pull up next to me at a light in a Mustang. She yells over " Hey Nice Mustang!"  I left her sitting there.  Most ask " hey is that a "69"?    Think it's a kamero. Oh well...      I hear ya'...  People are dumb.

It's definitely an annoyance, especially since the last time I owned a Charger was when I was 15.  Mine is still a project (will be for quite a while longer, too), but I get asked all the time by friends how my Charger project is coming along.  I correct them, but they all seem to just be caught up on the name & usually call it a Challenger when they're actually in the garage.

I'd imagine there must be a lot of 'Cuda owners who get the "Nice Camaro!!" compliment quite often by non-car people, so at least the Challenger-Charger argument is still between two MoPar nameplates. :poopoke:

1991 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin-Turbo....The sunny day cruiser (RTBoost)
1990 Toyota Celica GT Liftback...........The new daily & winter driver.
All-American Muscle: 'Cudas and Challengers...Still the Elite and always will be.

Nah, the most annoying thing I get is "Nice Cuda.  Does it have a Hemi in it?"
Everyone recognizes a Cuda, they just assume it is a Hemi!!
Darn that is annoying!

you gotta remember, there are a lot of people that are NOT car people
yeah, people never have a problem identifying a mustang though.

Right, most people don't give a rat's ass about cars. But the Mustang, Corvette and to a lesser extent the Camaro are iconic. Most people know what they are.

In the grand scheme of things the Challenger really had very little impact on automotive history.
