Black Walnut Stumps/Logs (Previously used as Jack Stands)

I have access to some pretty large black walnut chunks. Some may have seen them in the "What did you do to your E-body this weekend?" thread.

I think my friend will give them up for free, but theyt are VERY heavy and I don't know how I could ship them. C'mon down to central NC and use them for something good. Telecaster body had been mentioned, although They look more like S-G's to me.

WHY this beautiful tree got cut into little chunks is another story....

Thats used a lot for gunstocks isn't it?Maybe sell it to Smith/Wesson and then buy some nice jack stands

   Any woodworker or carver would pee down their leg to get ahold of those sections. For that matter any seasoned hard wood.

The tree got cut down a couple months back. Is there a "right" way to season the logs?

In "log" form they need to cure/dry for about a year when the wood is going to be used as fire wood. Once processed "green" at a saw mill the boards are either taken to a drying kiln or racked in stacks in a manner that will keep them from warping as they naturally dry. But once any hardwood species is dried it becomes so much harder, all mositure is removed and the grain I guess actually shrinks closser together. Wood is amazing. IMO nature's finest product.

If your going to use them as boards, then they should be stacked something like the photos shown below.  For about a year.  Do not use "green wood" as sticker/spacer, mold and/or black staining will appear.
