Once you stop laughing at me
« on: September 24, 2004 - 11:48:58 AM »
I need some advice.  It seems that somebody other than myself (of course) made an error.  This person apparently put the trunk lock linkage into the lock cylinder with out the retaining clip.  This person who's name we won't mention, closed the hood and I, I mean he/she, could hear the linkage fall out of the cylinder rendering the lock inoperable.  The tail lights are not wired up yet, so I can't even drive the car.  Please tell me that there is a way to get into the trunk to grab ahold of the linkage and pop the decklid without drilling/cutting/grinding anything.  Does the rear seat back come off from inside the car?  Maybe  I can get a tool in through a body plug in the trunk floor.  I have pretty long arms, so I was even thining of removing the package tray and a speaker and reaching in through there.   This is embarassing, and I can't wait till I get a hold of the one who played this cruel joke on me.....

the linkage is disconnected on my car too and it took some doing to get the trunk open so i could see what it looked like inside there. after the back seat is taken out ya almost have to send a 4 year old through the opening to get into the trunk cuz there isnt much room for anyone bigger than that to fit lol

So dumb question to continue this... once you're in the trunk (from the inside) how do you pop the trunk open then?? I was sitting here thinking about this, and the only thing I could think of was to unbolt either the latch, or the mechanism itself and open it that way... ::) ::)

Pardon my ignorance, but I've never had to do this... lol!! (Thankfully!)

The key allows the Lock cylinder to turn, which pulls on the linkage that pops the latch. so all you have to do is pull on the linkage and will release the latch..... tada

This is also how you steal cars. you use the slim jim to crap the linkage in the door and that unlocks the car......

I was a locksmith years back, and yes I still have my tools.

Yeah, I just got in.  I'm the knuckle head who closed the trunk, but I wasn't about to admidt that till I got the problem solved.  Luckily I have long arms though.  The cool thing was, that I found the broadcast sheet stuffed into the rear seat back.  It was rotted along all of the seat spring though, so instead of risking it, I just left it in there.  It didn't really tell me much that I didn't already know anyway.  there was also a little metal tag along with it.  Anybody know what it is?

That's ok, I do stupid stuff like that too...just last week, I was lubing up the window tracks in my Exploder. I had the keys in the ignition to roll the window up & down (elect. windows), I hit the power lock button about 5 seconds before I got up & shut the door to get a tool! :-[
I wasn't far away from more keys, but it was still a DOH! :o

That's cool you found your broadcast sheet, I'd still try & get it out of there when you have time.
I think the metal tag is for the upholstery shop at the factory, so they knew which seat covers to install.
