How to manually divert defroster
« on: March 06, 2010 - 01:30:28 PM »
Hello all,
How would I manually divert air to the defrost vents. Do I have to drop the heater box down on my 1974 Challenger factory a/c car.
My a/c heat controls do not work and that job is on the list but for now just so I can clear the windshield for safe driving for that 4:00 am drive home from work.
Thanks guys.

Hey Rob,

You could uncouple the actuator. Sorry, I don't have an A/C box that I could take a picture of, but there is a clip that couples the actuator arm to the door. It is on the front side so I don't think you need to drop the box. Getting to it may be a PITA. Once uncoupled, I guess you could use some wire to hold the door pointing for the defrosters.

Hey thanks Slotts !
I'll give that a try, say you have an abundance of good info.
Just got in from stabbing the 360 in my 86 Dodge truck, oh what fun.
I'll let you know how it goes by the PITA chart.
Thanks again !

Hey Slotts,

Thanks for adding the insurance on the switch shipping. I'll be sure to do that next time and maybe pack better too.

I was able to manually move the diverter valve/pod to make air blow out of the defrost vents. I just moved the shaft and it stays open.

Thanks for the tip on that. It was only about a 1 1/2 on the PITA scale. Good deal
