For what it is worth, I just purchased the Proform 850 street series for my 440.  I've upgraded from an edelbrock 650 and I can't wait to install it and feel the difference.

Unfortunately, I had to take a step backwards and upgrade my intake manifold, as the aftermarket one that was on my car was not great and the Proform's bigger throttle blades did not quite fit with the intake's spread bore pattern without some machining work.

It seemed a shame to buy a great carb, but not go the extra mile to get the right intake manifold too for $200 more bucks.

I agree with a Holley 3310. You really don't want mech. secondaries with an auto and a car over 3000lbs.
yep I agree 750 vaccum, with electric choke..had no problems at all go out in the morning hit the key and shes starts warming up and when i here her rpms come down shes ready to go take her to the strip no problems 1290s all day long bracket racing hot cold it dont matter..and i have a 509 purple shaft cam in it with very little of anything else.. :2cents:

For what its worth I run a 750 out of the box on my car and it runs so good I'm hesitant to mess with it....Chryco certainly knows carbs better than I so I would love to try a Proform 850 on mine for comparison.   :naughty:

For your package, assuming the BIL will be the one tuning it so stay with what he knows.. Holleys... I'd run either the 3310 VS Holley as mentioned, or the Street Avenger 670, which is the same flow as the 3310 just tested differently. You could go bigger, but there's no real need IMO, and mechanical secondaries are not needed.
