will a tko 600 5 speed survive behind a 512 stroker?
« on: March 11, 2010 - 12:37:39 AM »
I am a season away from my stroker build, but have been giving this much thought.. I want a stick behind the stroker, but thats gonna be a mountain of torque.  I really want a stick, and I really want a complete kit, not something that I will have to hack up my car.  so, will a tko 600 survive the stroker?

Well maybe , basically anything can be broken , if you don't abuse it it will live , but with slicks & clutch drops & power shifts especially above 6000 you will break it .
I would Talk to Tony Edler @ Classic performance , he is a member here & can help with your decision

Thanks for the quick response Chryco.  I know a 727 could be built to handle all I could give it, but I havent had a stick car in over 10 years.  I miss rowing gears.  just dont want to give Keisler a 4k donation.  I will contact Tony when the time is closer.

I had heard about both of those and hope they come out soon... Would like to see some reviews first, instead of being the test mule.

Another option would be an 18 spline 833 4 speed and Gear Vendors splitter if you need a fifth gear.  That's what my plans are for an equally stout stroker motor in my Roadrunner.

You really need to evaluate your situation.  It seems really easy to make insane horse power that is manageable with EFI and other technological advances.  With that statement, you have to determine how you need to get all that power to the ground.  Your car has to be a package, not a hot engine with stiff rear suspension.  You'll just sit and spin.  Each part has to work together, from shocks, spring, tires....etc.  The TKO 600 is a tough transmission and I will not tell you that you can't break it.  As with any manual transmission, a shock load to the gear set that is closest to the 1 to 1 diametral pitch can and will wipe a gear in any transmission.  What is your intent of your car?  Give us some details.

I personally like the overdrive, it's the best thing I've ever done.  Your options are increasing however, Jamie Passon is working on a 5 speed as well as McLeod.  Pricing - I have no idea.  Availability - Still a big question but the Mopar options are increasing which is good.

Well, Tony, I want alot of power in a car that handles like a modern sports car, yet has that classic car styling.  I want the whole package ... Basically this car will have the stroked 440(512) with an XV Motorsports level 2 suspension.  I really WANT overdrive...AND a stick.  The 512, eventually, will have fuel injection.  and this car will be driven...probably only see the track a 1 or 2 times a year.
