More surprises on my 72 Cuda
« on: September 25, 2004 - 10:16:57 PM »
just noticed today nearly rusted thru area around the brake booster attach area(s)

Is this common? I cant tell if there has been any attempts at metal craft in this area but there is what looks like fiberglass resin that has dripped and run down the inside of the firewall in that area. Guess I would have to find a donor car with a good firewall portion to repair this? Any comments or advice? Will try and post up pics later

The little drain hole between the wiper motor and brake booster gets clogged up pretty easy
and the rust comes along soon after.

The right way would be to cut and splice a patch on the firewall and weld it up but if you have rust there
your gonna find it elswhere on that firewall and floorpans

One last thing

fiberglass behind the brake booster just can't be safe :P

I have the same thing on my 74 Chally.  And yep, there's more in the same general area.  I plan on patching it and trying to match the original look of things, but a donor panel would be better.

Pics! Let's see pics!

I've posted a couple of pics that might be a good reference for you. Does it look like your panel started to rot at the overlap seam?

I have a source for a "good" donor car if you can't find one in your area.

I wonder how close the '71 up B-body is in this area. I bet a splice here or there would be the same

Just need to sand and paint, and finish the top of the inner fender

my damage looks to be confined to the top attach points of the booster. Will probably address when I pull the engine to finish out the engine bed
