1 year later and 4 interviews turns into a surgery
« on: March 11, 2010 - 03:21:20 PM »
For over a year, I've been trying to get hired from a Company out of MN. named ECOLAB. By far the most intense interview batteries I have ever gone thru. So far 4 phone calles and 3 interviews. Yesterday was my 3rd interview with one of the Territory Managers as a ride along out in the field. We went to Hospitals, Bars, and restuarants repairing, adjusting, checking, and recording readings.

Most of the equipment I would be working on if I get the job is restuarant dishwahers and sanitizing equipment. One of the managers just called me and said I'm leaning on you getting the job but you have one other contender.

I have one more interview next week with the area manager. The Big big Wig. If I get the job, I get a lightly used Dodge Caravan, 24/7 unlimited use, free gas and maint all paid for. This job won't be a bowl of Cherries completely. I'll be working 50-60 hrs a week probably. That's life.  I do get 3 week ends off a month. Once hired I will be going to St. Paul MN. for 2 weeks. I still have to pass a physical. This is what worries me. My left ear hearing is shot.

Anyway, I just needed to rant a little. Got a case of anxiety. Monday I find out when I meet Mr. big cheese.

I would have week ends still and my on shift week end I can be at the car working. My territory is right where it is. I get a call, I go fix, and come back to keep working on my car again.

Barn finds in the bay area? Never happens here very much. They all got sold on e Bay and headed East.

Will that be 12-hour shifts? And, rotating shifts (Day shift one week night shift the next)?
I'm asking cause the client businesses you mentioned generally are open during non-traditional times; after 5PM (bars stay open here until 2AM).

I know, nothing to do with a car, it's pure curiousity on my part.
I work 6AM - 4PM, plus on call for phone-response the rest of the time. (no overtime.  I do the extra hours for job security)

Thanks
Ron

That's great news TC  If this is what you want.  But are there really any barns in the bay area?  Oh that's right, California happy cows got to have a place to gather....never mind...     Good luck

Days will vary depending on the amount of emergency calls I would get. The manager I was with said this last Monday was hectic. 9 emergency calls and he got home at 7pm. a 12 hour day for him. 10 hrs a day looks like about the avg.

Late at night, I would be safe but then they turn into priority 01 in the early morning next day. The bars are just mini dishwashers. Those tend not to be too much of an issue most of time.

Good Luck with whatever your decision is.... When you say repair restaurant equipment, that makes me cringe... Our business had a brush with this years ago working on microwaves....Nasty & dangerous environment...we backed off to just doing carry in service.
Sure you want to be crawling around, under and in restaurant equipment?

Yup, noisy wet enviornments with food and booze.
They're just big convevor stainless steel boxes with alot of plumbing, sensors, and detergent solenoid systems feeding small amounts of detergent into the water wash.

Good luck with that TC.  Your bad ear should not be a problem for this work unless there is a specific requirements for the job.  If you can function and perform the work they can't discriminate....If they did, that would be a lawsuit.  ;D
