Mopar 440 M1 Intake 4529118 same as Eddy DP4B ?
« on: March 13, 2010 - 02:45:43 PM »
Guys, is the Mopar dual plane M1 intake (Part # 4529118), looks like a stock intake but in alum, the same as the Eddy DP4B ???

I have heard it is and also that it's just a 1969 intake cast in alum ?

Which one is it ...... ?

Thanks....

Back in the 70's I ran the 383 version of the DP4B on my 70 Roadrunner, and right now I've got the M1 Dual Plane on it after I took the six pack off primarily because I needed something stock height for the Airgrabber to fit.  I'm pretty sure the Mopar intake is stock height, the DP4B may be a little more of a 'high-rise' than stock.  It was a great manifold back in the day, but I think it was Mopar Performance magazine that did a comparison of both these manifolds along with several others including the newer Edelbrock Performer RPM which skunked them all performance-wise.  Either the DP4B or M1 would be a decent stock replacement though.  :2cents:

the Mopar M1 intake is better than the eddy , & the Mopar intake is basically the 68-69 iron intake redone in Alum

Last year, Hot Rod ran a bunch of intake tests on a warmed up 383.  The M1 did very well...and the Holley Street Dominator did as well.

I think Sledgehammer posted the link recently but I don't see it....so here it is again, fwiw

so the intake is nothing but a alum 1969 intake.   That sucks.....

Guess it's coming off for a Performer RPM.

How do you think the six-pack CAM will run with the RPM ?  Think it will pull harder to 5K???

Just realized there is a single plane M1 that is the subject of the tests.

What else do I need to install the Performer RPM intake.

I'll get all the gaskets, new intake bolts, and I already have a drop base filter.

Will my throttle cable be long enough and how about my 727 kickdown ?

DO I need anything else ??

make sure you use washers under the intake bolts
if it is a 383 I would use the 1214 Flepro intake gasket or 1215 for a 440
youy may need to make an extension for the throttle cable

UPDATE:

While going threw my dads garage today, I found a new in box Eddy Torker 440.
So I am thinking,..... how would the Mopar 484 cam (114 LSA) work with the Torker?

Its the orginal design which I have heard is better...

Thanks..

I also ran (and still have in a box somewhere) a torker on my 383 for a couple of years when I was regularly dragracing my RR on a 1/8th mile track.  The 383 loved this manifold, decent mid-range and good top-end power.  I was running a 4.10 rear and 10 1/2" torque converter, a high lift high overlap Crane Cam & 12:1 TRWs which worked great together.  It was bracket racing and I routinely ran in a class where almost all the other cars were trailered race-only cars.  That I recall this manifold faired fairly well in the manifold comparison linked to above.  The only reason I took mine off is I wanted to be able to use the stock Airgrabber aircleaner and the Torker was too tall.  Great find?  (you need any help looking around your fathers garage? )

Unless you are into racing red light to red light, you are fine with what you have.    :2cents:
