    Brake problem - not E-body, - but we got some clever guys in here..

    What’s wrong with my 57 DeSoto...??

    I tryed to get the air out of the brakes,
     - I can get the pedal down 3 – 4 times, and get the fluid out of the airscrew on the wheels, but after 3-4 times the pedal is stocked in top, and can’t be preesed down anymore, and all wheels turn freely when pressing the pedal -
    If I then try again the next day, - it will take 3-4 pumps, and then it’s stocked again.???

    Any sugestions..???

    It sounds like you have seized wheel cylinder pistons. Has the car been sitting for a while? This can result in rust formation in the w/c bores, and consequent seizing of the piston to the bore. This will often result in the symptoms you describe. If this is the case, it is time to hone and rebuild, or replace them. If the car has been running and driving up to now, some other questions need answering: Dos the brake pedal feel correct after bleeding? Does the brake seem to work at the wheel when it is soft? Are all 4 positions experiencing this "no action" complaint?

    Got it..  :bigsmile:

    This little piece of rubber brakehose rigth under the master cyl. is tigth, no pass true  - do it have any function..???

    Keeps slight pressure on drum systems so they react quicker when you actually hit the brakes. Apparently helps with the wheel cylinder seals as well.

    Only used on Drum brakes...I don't think it has anything to do with performance but if your drum cylinders leak without it you'll know why... Sold now days for Hotrods that have the Master Cylinder below the level of the brake cylinders to prevent bleed back.

       Early 70's would of had them for the drums inserted in the MC just behind the inverted flair where the brake lines screw in. By '73 the wheel cylinders had been redesigned not to need them & from what I understand replacements for the prior models have the newer design so they are no longer necessary.

    Does your Desoto have a separate frame?

    If so it could be this flexi pipe is there to allow movement between the master cylinder (body mounted) and the brake line (frame mounted) ?

    If that is what it does then you can do without it by putting a couple of coil turns in the pipe as it comes off the cylinder which will allow some flexibility - you'll see the same thing for the same reason on '70s GM products.

    Thats what I'm gonna do, - the repop hoses dont have any residual valve in them anyway..

    Just saw this thread, yes it allows for frame/body flex, putting a couple of coils in the line can overcome but don't do it in copper as it hardens with usage and becomes brittle.   :2thumbs: make sure that the flares have double flares also.   :cheers:
