starter fit problem
« on: March 23, 2010 - 11:52:03 AM »
I bought a starter the other day, a mini, for my 440.  It is for the following apps.
Part Number:   PME 17181
Attributes   Manufacturer : Nippondenso
Starter Type : Offset Gear Reduction

Application Information:   1995 Dodge Truck Ram 1500 1/2 Ton - Pickup
Engines : 5.2 L 318 CID V8
Engines : 3.9 L 239 CID V6
Engines : 5.9 L 360 CID V8

When I tried to install it, it is hitting on the innermost area next to the block.  When it is nbolted in, it will not go all the way flush to the the housing.  My standard started worked fine.  Do I need to grind down part of the starter?  Or should I get a different starter?  If a different one, for what year?  Thanks.

The mini should fit.  The only thing I had to do was remove the extra wiring extension block(I don't know what it's called) that came on the starter.  That part was hitting the block.

Same here #3, but this was for a big block...Maybe it applies to small blocks too?   :dunno:

all of those nip starters come with the terminal extension because they are designed for the newer vehicle application.
