coil over shocks
« on: March 25, 2010 - 03:32:46 PM »
Hi
I am 72 presently working on a total rebuild on my Challenger. I have the broadcast sht. and it mentions at the bottom of the sheet that the vehicle is a 'special handing car'. The vehicle has what seem to be original, coil over shock. From pictures that I have seen this seems to be rare. Any one out there got any input.
Cheers,

Maybe Barry, AlaskanTA, has some input?

Special handling cars had attention to paint & finish detail not suspension , the coil over shocks are the worst idea on a leaf spring mopar , it will make the rear of thecar bounce & compromise traction , just use a normal shock in its place

Ditto what CP said. Special handling meant the order/car was "handled" differently. This is typically seen on fleet cars like taxi cab and police cars, but could spill over in to other special purchases, like one made for a Chrysler executive or a special dealer order or such.

Coil on shock mounts are '70s attempts at stepping up wheel rates and helping out inadequate components. Nothign factory about em. I'd ditch for good quality regular shocks

Weird, the coil overs are on the front...  :dunno:
