Quarter panel and Trunk extension panel
« on: March 26, 2010 - 05:39:16 PM »
I am ready to dig into the extension panel. I have my quarter off, and I am comparing  my extension panel on the car to the new Goodmark/AMD panel I have in my hand. They look very different.

1.) The rear flange is turned down rather than up.
2.) the area surrounding the extension drain hole is recessed farther than the stock one.
3.) There is a formation in th extension panel by the fender lip that does not look like it would interface properly with the wheel lip.

What has your experience installing these been?

I expect a fair amount of persuasion, but I figured I would ask ahead of time.

I'm at the same stage as you are right now. I have AMD drop offs. Most of the stuff I'm getting needs some tweaking. My philosiphy is if it needs to move.... move it!  :icon16: Especially if you know what it's supposed to look like. My only problem is much of my car was "Gone" in the areas where I'm working, so I go by pictures I find on this site, or others.  :dunno: Also, try fit everything with clamps, screws and clecos before welding. I think you'll be surprised how well everything goes together!

Just to make it clear, AMD and Goodmark are two different companies and each one has their own tooling,

So which ones do you have AMD or Goodmark?

For the most part AMD parts usually fall into place

seen and have had fitment issues with both Amd and goodmark, customers have had variations in parts as well. AMD may be the poster child of new product and praise, but they have alot of QC issues as well. I am actually shocked at some qc issues they are having which are not small issues either. None of them are perfect.

I'll be pulling the extension panel today.
I am pretty sure it is a Goodmark extension panel. I side with Dave- no one's perfect.
I will have some close ups of the differences, and I will post all the details.
As soon as I get my QP, I will let you know how it goes together.

Yep, I agree with all the comments. It seems every car fits a little different. I could not get AMD quarters to fit for anything on my Challenger and the Goodmarks fit very good. I have AMD drop offs which I'm working with this today actually. They fit pretty good but I had to take about 2" of bend out of them. The area I have the biggest current issue with is the area where the drop off, rear valence, quarter and rear tail light panel all join. I know I'm going to have to move a bunch of metal there to make it fit nice and also gap around the bumper better. Lot's of frustration that's for sure! My AMD decklid is so out of square I'll have to cut about 3/16"-1/4" out and section back in on the driver's side rear corner but the rest of it fits good.

I agree with comments above, but have found that experience helps tremendously when doing the sheetmetal fitment.  I have had to work with parts and reform the edges, etc...  But remember, we are lucky to have any parts at all when considering how few mopars were made compared to Chevies and Fords.

Wes, why would you use that deck if it is that far out, something is really wrong with that, I have sold a lot of the AMD deck and have not heard of them being that far out, i would have them exchange that. I just put one on a friends chall and it fit perfect.

Because I bought all my parts over a year ago and these projects seem to drag out. I guess I could talk to AMD about the fitment but just figured it was reproduction parts and they'd take some mods to get them to work. I'm in a business where everyone thinks warranties last indefinitely (instead of one year) and somehow I don't want to be that person, but maybe I should?

I would  at least call and talk to ALan, whom did you buy it from is another issue if not directly from AMD, if it was one of the internet whures you might be stuck.

Hey Dan, I don't know if you got to yours already, but I took a few pics of mine today for you.
Mine fits really nice, a few minor tweaks so far

(trunk is a Goodmark new full one piece/outer wheelwell housing is from Autobodyspecialties that I bough a while ago......... just for reference)
When I had the full quarter in place, (Goodmark) there was a little tweaking too. I could put it up in place if you need.
And to be honest I actually forget what the trunk floor extension was....AMD/Goodmark  :clueless:
I got it off Dave a little while back.....maybe he can chime in and let me know  :eek4:

Hope they help ya a little.......and if you need more detailed pics or whatever let me know.....though my work is CLEARLY not the final word, it may help someone

Thanks for chiming in guys.
Jeff, I see how you had to reverse your flange on the extension panel the same way I have to. Fitment looks good otherwise.
I'm looking forward to all of the cursing.  :smilielol: and  :banghead: :pullinghair:
Little update- I will be picking up my new QP tomorrrow from Dave- (A big Thank you again!)
