Are you keeping the /6 mostly stock?  If so, I'd see no reason to do an upgrade if money's tight.  Otherwise, just find a '73+ A-body and swipe the front disc setup from it. ;) ;D  I'm sure you could find one in a junkyard just waiting to be put back onto the road.  Well, in a way it'd be back on the road.  Personally, I'd go for front discs just to make the car stop better up front...The rears can stay drums. ;) :P

The drums will be Ok as long as you are aware the stopping distance isn`t that great.Just make sure the pads are in good shape and adjusted right.

The disc swap is easy enough to make it a no brainer. I did the drums in a '66 GTO when I had
Pontiacs but it was just too scary :P.   Too many close calls and white knuckle moments

The  problem nowadays is antilock brakes on other cars. Even Minivans have 'em and it lets any
new car stop super short. Disc brakes and down shifting in a older Mopar is the way to combat
this growing problem ::)
