Picture in the center shows it forward of the number one exh manifold. Can you do it that way?

Mike I doubt the tube is long enough to go to the front. Hmmmm Both the original and the Milodon (when it worked) came up and through pretty much were I have it positioned now.  I'm starting to wonder if the metals been "softend" due to the amount of try's I've done. Kind of like when you bend a piece of metal "the first time" it still keeps that shape, but once you work it a bit it sort of moves around a bit.  :dunno: This ain't over yet....  :nono:

I will say doing it on a stand has got to be a zillion times easier than doing it in the car!  :grinyes: You should have a BIG advantage there...

I swear the karma train is on rails goin' right up my......  Workin on a charging system issue tonite and from that angle - the other side of the car... the new steering pump is not in line with the crank pulley... looking to trade... 1 HEMI for 71 pinto, 61 corvair or a checker cab..... I cant take it any more!  :bricks1:

Remember my "lost" pump pulley (which I have NEVER found BTW) the replacement I got is not correct... close but not exactly... Thank the lord I take pic's of everything... the hunt is on!

Hemi's had Federal pumps originally. Is that what you have? What does the pulley look like? Solid or spoke? Thick or thin balancer? Thin balancer was the earlier production prior to 68 I think.

I re-built mine. Not that hard to do actually. Even if you have a Saginaw, pumps really don't change much internally.

:2cents: , try to stay with what worked before and avoid another swap headache.  :banghead:

First off here I'd like to apologize,,, geez I sound like one whiney....  :blah:
That being said, I guess 50-60 hr weeks at the yard and working in the garage at night through an onslaught of screw ups has just fried my brain! And killing me with the arthritis in my neck. But now I'm getting whiney again... sorry.   :horse:

Mike , the pump was being replaced because someone at one time used a prybar on the housing to adjust it. You can see the style in earlier pics in this post. I thought since I was doing the steering gear, I may as well freshen the entire system. Pump and lines. I could not find a pump with my original style housing, which sucked!! Because on the new ones the return hose is in a crappy spot for a HEMI car. A few places (like ROCK Auto show my style of pump on line...but dont have it.) Anyway the pulley disappeared, so I thought I had found the correct one. Again refer to earlier pics in this post. BTW... I have been working on this project for a while now... the originall pully has never surfaced!  :grinno:

Today I took a ride maybe 70 miles west of here to an oldschool yard out in the country. I found a pulley on a VERY UGLY old Polara wagon. I belive the offset is correct although the diameter may be a bit smaller. I dont know yet if this will create other issues. I scratched and painted it tonite. I'm gonna hang it tomorrow. And post an update tomorrow nite.

When I took her out for a test drive on Thursday. My regulator was acting up, way high on the charging side. I go to Orielly's (they give me Rock prices without the wait time ) for a new reg (that was friday!) I have a choice of master craft or borg warner (a few $ more) I say gimme the good one!. i GET IT OUT OF THE BOX, ON THE BACK IT SAYS MADE IN CHINA  :swear: I put it in and shes right in the discharge zone, I figure no grounding. I grind off more paint with the dremel and install again. NFG! I take it back and get the elcheapo one... dont say where its made , not painted and seems to work fine... go figure...?

Shes scheduled for an alignment monday nite! So I gotta get a few things set and ready to go. So pumps going in and she will get another test drive. I figure the new stick and tube will be here monday or tuesday. After that.... I just wanna cruise awhile...   :burnout: Sounds easy right??? Not likely.....  :faint:

Bouchillon performance sells the offset keyway pulley that goes on the saginaw for the thick balancer. Also the press on Federal type.

Take a look at these. If yours doesn't work out, give em a call.

Raining pretty good here right now but as soon as the rain passes I'll find out. I noticed they say there's is 6 7/8 I doubt if the one I found is that big of dia. In fact I dont think the one I lost was that big of dia.

Granted I understand the pump will be pushing more because of a smaller dia pully.Anyopions on the effect that has on the steering gear?

In fact if you look at the saginaw post in this section by 68 HEMI charger... the pulley I got of the Polara is probly the smaller one in the pic he posted....

Sunday's update... Reinstalled the steering pump with the other pulley. Lots better of a line -up than before but when checking w a straight edge I'm maybe 1/16-1/8 inch shy. Looks like I'll be calling bouchillon in the morning! Mike thanks for the link. I also noticed a difference in steering response at idle w this pulley. Didn't like it at low idle - choppy - granted she was not warmed up yet. (I dont run a choke either).

Secondly - voltage regulator - my gauge was a little bit hi and erratic idling in the garage (has been all the years I had her) cold low idles maybe 800 RPM so no surprise IMO. I thought lets go for a ride and see how it goes. Well the gauge ends up going to the HI. Too hi, thought I had this prob solved but now I dont think so. I realized hey maybe it'll go HI but then come down and land a little above center after cruisin' around for a half an hour. No luck even after 45 mins and only 1000R's shes still hi. I spoke to soon in response to Brads post..

I'm scratchin my head on this one. I did check the battery after the ride it wasnt bubbling but overcharging is not good! This whole situation just developed and no electrical changes have been made. Checked this and that/grounds/ect  :dunno:
This has sure come a long way from just a steering gear update thats for sure. Anywat heres a pic or two from the "test ride"

Did you catch all the footnotes below the ad?

9016,9016C,9017 & 9017C are designed to work on B/RB/Hemi Engines with Saginaw Pumps
Only, but can be used on ’70-later A-Engines using BPE9040 Spacer & Bolt Kit. We Do Not manufacture any Pulleys that will work on '69 & Earlier A-Engines with Cast

Check your voltage regululator. Is it properly grounded? Wire brush behind and the bolt threads.

Called Bouchillon and got a pulley coming, crossin' my figers!

I'm gonna run a wire from the reg right over to the battery this evening. On this particular reg its a bare metal case (NOT PAINTED). I'll see what happens, can't be anymore grounded than that.

You know my originall intention was to have the project done by Memorial day.  :smilielol:  :faint:

Go back and look at the dipstick pic again. It bolts onto the exh manifold to keep the stick from moving around.
