Hybrid Fiberglass solutions T/A style base plate install
« on: April 03, 2010 - 07:22:28 PM »
Thought other members might like to see whats involved in fitting a fiberglass base to a T/A hood. I wanted a single 4 barrel so this is the only option I know of as all T/A's were 6 packs.
Here is the web site link   http://www.hybrid-fiberglass-solutions.com/products/custombaseplates.html
I just bought the base and seal as I wanted a steel lid and Hybrids are fiberglass,
It's quite a bit of work fitting the basebplate to the hood. They give you quite a bit of extra material on the carb flange, but go easy as taking off material is easier that adding!
The baseplate needs quite a bit of finishing work underneath if you want it to look really good .
The base plate doesn't come with a bracket to fasten it to the carb so I had to make one.
I'm using a Demon carb. Watch out for choke linkage on the carb flange , I had to clear it away.
When purchasing an aircleaner element get the one that's taller than stock, I didn't know about it when I bought this K&N filter. It will fit in the hood with no problems I think.
The only "flaw" was that the flange were the seal goes on was not very flat, easily out by 1/2" in places.  My hood was much flatter than the baseplate. When grinding down the carb flange to lower the assembly watch out for the air cleaner lid screws sticking through and in my case resting on the float adjuster on the carb, I had to shorten the front screw, not a big deal just something to watch out for.
I just looked through the hood scoop to see the clearance, and used a mirror to see the front section.....enjoy!
