Engine Block ID and Galen Govier's
« on: April 04, 2010 - 10:14:35 PM »
Well I think I was ablt to determine not only the block casting number (that is the easy one) but the Block ID Pad # too. Here is what I have on my 1970 Cuda and here are so more details of the car. :2thumbs:

My Engine    FW340P 3197 0103
1970 Windsor Built 340 P Premium Fuel Engine Build Date 04-28-970 103rd engine built

All this seems to jive since the VIN door tag says date build 7-1970 and the the door and dash vins match. car only has 26,065 miles, the speedo does NOT apear to be modded or have evern turned over, and from all that I have researched the car was in storage for 20+ years and then had the engine pulled with the trans and cleaned up, body had a full re-paint in rallye red in less than last 4 years.

My origional intent was to get a decent 70 Cuda and make a hemi or 440 6b clone, but this car is so clean and all arreaprs to be numbers matching, no butchering etc. I really m not going to mess with this car. So many cars have been made into clones and there were not a crazy amount of 1970 Cuda's built, less than 383 big block cars, but still not that many from what I have read the total for a 340 was 1943

Car is is very very good shape for 40 years old, perfec it is NOT needs a few minor parts and is missing wheel well trim moldings and a a perfect set of turn signal front covers and perfect grill trim would be nice, but you are talking $1000s just for what I mentioned.

Here are the totals for 70 I came up with.

Total   Barracuda Coupe/HT   Barracuda Convertible   Gran Coupe Coupe/HT   Gran Coupe Convertible   'cuda Coupe/HT   'cuda Convertible

Hemi 4spd   289   0   0   0   0   284   5
Hemi Auto   377   0   0   0   0   368   9

So it leasd me to contact Galen Govier, register this car and also see any other info I can dig up on her.

Have others her used Galen Govier's site to register? I am not selling the car, but would like to know how real and how much info about the car, prove it is a reall100% car and that will help the value for the kids when I am dead and gone:)

A 340 should have the vin # stamped into the upper left(drivers side) block area, just below the head, the trans should also have it stamped on a pad.Any fender tag or broadcast sheet,do the numbers stamped on the cowl and the radiator support match? You do all that and have pretty much done what Galen will charge you for if he ever gets back to you in a couple years!

I registered with GG almost 30 years ago, he decoded my vin tag and fender tag for free on the phone was a cool chat, back then it was hard to decode tags but now everything is available online in in print there is no need to give someone else your vin  :2cents:

Don't waste your time or $$ on GG. He will only tell you how many of your particular combo are in HIS registry, NOT a percentage of all manufactured. He'll likely charge you by the minute for any phone info. Members of this and other boards will help you for FREE and sometimes we're even fun and amusing.

A 340 should have the vin # stamped into the upper left(drivers side)

The number at that location is the one he posted above, the FW340P 3197 0103 number. It is the engines serial number.  ;)

The VIN number is on the passenger side of the block, down low. It is about mid-engine front to back.

3197 is also April 29, 1970.  ;)
