How much does a 340 block weigh?

I am wondering if it is feasable to load it into the back of my hatchback car <mini cooper>   It will physically fit, I am just wondering if it is possible for 2 guys to lift it in or if I am crazy for even thinking of such a thing.

Couple a hundred pounds.  I'm always nervous about doing that,  if I was to get in a wreck that block would be coming forward in a hurry.

Two guys lifted a 440 into the back of my Pathfinder, the only problem was the truck handled terrible on the highway because the block was behind the rear axle.

I actually waited till I could get a friend with a truck to help me and I'm glad I did.  The other plan consisted of using my wife's pilot to get a 360 I bought home.  During the trip it leaked oil all over the rear truck bed and I ended up having to wash out the back of the truck.

If you've ever had 2 larger people sit in the back, you've probably already put that much stress on the car.

Is this a bare block or assembled?

I pick them up and load them in my Neon trunk alone. Also up ont the engine stand. I think they are around 200-215. If it will fit, get a friend and stick it in there...lol. It's no worse than a 200lb friend in the back seat.

Bare block, crank and rods unassembled. I am picking it up in Vegas which is a 320 mile trip one way.  I'd save some $$ using my Cooper instead of renting a vehicle and getting 20 mpg instead of 30+

You should be fine, just have a dependable buddy helping you move it.

Back when I was a teen I had my brother help me load a 350 Olds rocket motor block. Sob brother let goes saying its heavy as we are just getting in to a trunk but wasn't quite there yet. Instead of having the block dropping and cracking I took the full weight and got it in. Darn back hurt so bad later on I had problems walking.

So why not rope / chain it in?? Must be some thing back there to loop on.

I think I am going to rent a small truck to get it.  My father has a truck I could borrow but its a 3/4 ton that gets about 12 mpg.  I think renting a small truck for $50 a day and $30 more in gas is the way to go.

I keep thinking about where that block will go if somthing happens.

Yeah but if you rent a nice new little truck and the bed or tailgate gets chipped, scratch up the rented company will bill you for the damage.  $80 still buys alot of fuel.

Since the crank is out of the motor your car should be fine...just rope it down though the cylinders, you could crack open the hatchback and tie the rope under the bumper / frame and the other end goes maybe to a seat frame or something. This way you can drive normal and not worry about it shifting.

If you hit something well even with no engine block in the car you still might get injured.

You can load it in the back of your car easy with a little help.  I just picked my block up from a shop a couple of weeks ago in a Honda Accord.  It's heavy, but not a big deal.  I just put a blanket down with some cardboard on top to keep it from denting my trunk floor.  I would say the crank, heads, and block only way about 250-300.  Like someone else said, it's just like having a fat dude in the back of your car, or two normal sized people.  You can do it, but you will need a helping hand getting it in the back.  Just don't wreck. Physics is a MF.

I'd say it should work out alright, too.  I had my complete 340 delivered to me in the back of a Chysler LHS (quite humorous because it fit perfectly where the spare tire sat) & it wasn't too hard picking it up & transferring it to the back of my dad's pickup.
