Hey Shadango,   sorry if it seemed silly.  I am not myself right now.  You have every right to try to save a dollar anyway you can.  I do realize that these venders have a list price and a margin they can work with in. I shouldn't of even made a comment on this post, I didn't contribute any good to it, and had no business responding any type of negative. Please accept my appology since I was in the wrong here and really should of read what I posted before I hit send.  I am the last person to even consider trying to make anyone to feel bad.  You are a good person, and keep the site amuzed at times with your threads. And I enjoy reading them.

I am sorry for stepping in where I don't need to be.  Can we still be friends?  I am not good with smileys so the post I made didn't see how the expression was intended.  Not to finger you out, but to joke with you.

Oh yeah, and my cuda can beat your cuda    .................     Mine isn't quite ragged out yet like yours.   Now was that a joke  :smilielol:    As cudaguy knows.........It's lonely at the top, I got alot of practice being a prick, but it's alll in fun.

I didnt proof read this either

LOL No harm no foul.

I can be a real prick too...we could probably get a good contest going there...LOL  :roflsmiley:  And I *am* a frugal bastard. So I know sometimes I came across that way.

I am not looking to hose any vendor.  Just looking to save where I can. $50 saved , assuming the parts are equal, is money I can spend on OTHER parts.

If anyone can say that the bumpers one vendor offers are signifigantly of lower quality than another vendor then I dont mind paying a little more for the better one.

You are such a huge help to me and others on this site, I felt funny even saying anything in reply.....but of course  I did.  :poopoke:

In retrospect I put Dave in a situation...should have PMd him as far as a better price if possible. Its just that when I am ready to buy, I am ready to buy and I jump into it headfirst.  LOL

I never understood why someone restoring their vehicle, especially an E body Mopar, would haggle over a couple of dollars. I always pay more and buy the best replacement parts I can find for the vehicles I restore. Shipping costs never come into play. And I don't want to hear about the economy. Your car will still be here when it gets better.

well... that sounds great,  and I try to find the best parts for my cuda too,  but if I don`t flip every coin 3 times I will never get my car back on the streets... I like to look at it, but I got it to drive the heck out of it.
loving these cars involves a lot more than spending big bucks on beautifull showcars...  :2cents:

See, Dutch gets it.

RANT mode "on'...

LOL......Uh...who is "haggling over  a few dollars"?  I simply asked a vendor if he could match a competitors price.  He can say yes or now and then it will be my choice.

$50 is "a few" dollars to you?  If so, I will take donations.    :money:

And why WOULDNT shipping costs come into the picture?  The bottom line is the bottom line.

$50, to me, is a lot of money when you are talking about a $300 ballpark purchase. If its a $3,000 purchase, not so much.  If its a $30k purchase, not at all.

I have spent $50 at swap meets and come home with loads of parts.....so $50 buys a lot.

$50 will pay for another cool part.....or buy a bag of groceries (I reme, ber when it bought a carload of groceries)...or two visits to my chiropractor.....or..well, you get the picture.

And once again, I will say that if the $50 extra for a given part gets me "something" (better quality, fit, finish, etc) I am happy to spend it.  If it means getting a much better quality part, then groovy.  If its the same exact part, I will save the money.

I dont know what brand Roseville sells nor what brand Year One sells.  Folks so far have chimed in saying both are nice pieces.  Right now I am on the fence and looking for constructive help, not criticism telling me I am cheap.  BOTH vendors sell an item, BOTH vendors are sponsors of the site.

So I cant ask?

Geez.....how come every time I make a post somewhere saying I would like to try and save a few bucks if I can I get jumped on by "someone" extolling how it's "only a few dollars".

Maybe yunz guys have dollars just flowing out of every nook and cranny...but I dont.  My saving money is how I got my car to begin with.  And wasting money is a quick way to kill a project.

I like a value and I will shop for one when I have to.  I have put my car together with good parts (at least I think they are) and searched the web looking for deals on all of them. Even found some great used parts on this forum.

Its really NOT about spending the most money you can on parts, is it?  Or is it about bragging rights to say "I spent an extra $100 on a radiator cap cuz its the BEST!"  You can keep those bragging rights.

Price does NOT equal quality, necessarily. That I know from years of buying "stuff".  Saw plenty of vendors selling "quality" parts at Carlisle last summer for ridiculous prices and I bought the same (and sometimes better) parts online for way less cost by shopping.

"A penny saved is a penny earned".

For anyone else who feels that $50 is "just a few dollars", PM me and I will give you my paypal address...   :stirpot:

At this point I just want to know a) if year one bumpers are quality units , b) if Roseville's are BETTER and if so how and c) if they are the same, will Roseville match the price from Year One.

Geez...you'd think I killed a bunny rabbit or something.  :villagers:

Ok...RANT mode  "off"...panties now untwisting/unbunching

One - I never called you cheap - two - all I said was I don't understand why people haggle over quality parts for their high dollar builds. My finances are in great shape and I always do the best for my customers and I'm not a "young guy" at 47. Time is money. If you kept track of the time and effort you spent trying to save $50.00 you'd find out that it cost you either way. I bill $70.00 an hour at my shop and if I spent an hour trying to save $50.00 I'd wind up loosing $20.00. So that's how I save. I would certainly shop around to save money on a motor or large component but sweating $50.00 on anything but a Big Mac is pointless.

Not right to compare shop vs customer.  You just pass the difference on to your customer on the mark up that the customer has to pay, not you. So in a sense, you are spending the customers money at your 70 buck n hr.

Shadango, if Dave can cut you the deal- mopower to yah :2thumbs:

Moparal - you may not believe this but I NEVER pass the difference of ANYTHING onto my customers. I'll eat it first. If you bring your vehicle into my shop you pay my cost for paint and parts. You catch a VERY big break and I get more business. I am one of the few shops left that does complete restorations and stepped away from the collision end of the business because of the way I operate the resto side of it. I always try to save the customer a buck. As for shop vs customer - half of the vehicles on my property are mine. So I spend a large part of my day chasing parts for my own builds. I feel the pain trying to find just the right part at just the right price day in day out. I HATE EBAY - but I find myself trolling on there every night. Same thing with Craigslist. I realized along time ago that wasting time hunting the small stuff just wasn't worth it. So if I find something that meets my needs and it is priced in the ballpark - I buy it. I understand everyone has a budget. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

If I were able to make $7o in the same amount if time it took me to type the post asking Dave about the price match, then perhaps your theory would hold true for me.

Turns out, I cant make $70 in the minute it took me to type that, so for me, I am not wasting time or money.

Maybe thats why our fearless leaders in the gubment feel its ok to spend $500 for a toilet seat...not worth their time to shop around...then again, its OUR money they are spending in that case.

If you dont feel trying to save $50 on a $300 purchase isn't worth it, then mo'par to you.   :2thumbs:

Shandango, don't worry about other people and their opinion of your finances. Not everyone can throw away 50 bucks on a big mac or whatever.

I would always ask about price matching to save 50 bucks.  Oh , and Todd, being a business person as well I would find it difficult to make a living if I didn't mark up my product at least a little bit. I mean, you gotta pay for your time ordering parts and supplies somehow.

$70.00 an hour labor rate x 6 guys in my shop 45 hours per week. My workers make $15.00 an hour. Parts and supplies get dropped at my front door. I own the building . Do the math. I don't soak my customers on the material end . Never have - never will.

I don't know what kind of business you run but I have mine pretty much nailed down.
