Researched repair problems & many complaints prior to 02..mostly from owners of pre-owned.
When I research any other brand/model seem to see about the same problems/complaints
Being in a similar business (appliances) I understand folks have different experiences ....My appliances hardly ever fail...only had 1-lemon in 30 years.  We've been real lucky down through the years & had little trouble with our personal vehicles... If I'd listened to the naysayers we'd have never known the joy of one of Ma's Mini-vans....3-in 20 years putting 75-100k one each one & the worse problem that happened to any one was a blown head gasket.
I'll be pricing extended warranties as we keep our cars a while, about 6-year is the norm.

VW is one vehicle I cannot buy, ever, I reckon they are over priced junk.    :stomp:
Maintenance and parts are very expensive, they have a habit of breaking down over here and unless you have their readers you cannot access the codes even with the best Diagnostic equipment.   :villagers:
Is OBDII a standard?

Yes but for some reason the VW don't like to talk, can get some readings but mostly nothing and local dealers won't work in with non VW workshops so we get charged retail to have the computor read.   :villagers:
I have to admit that I gave up on VW's back in the 60's, I occasionally work on them but don't like to, (above comment) brakes and suspensions are always a good money spinner though and no computors.

Well no one has been able to come up with a better alternative http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=67806.0
I have some misgivings re: cost of repair ........But we're off to the VeeWee store to see what the final deal...car+100K bumper to bumper warranty will set us back, wifie is now determined to have  :pullinghair: but it's all my doing knowing once the ball was rolling there would be no stopping.

Good luck. The two people I know that have owned Audis absolutely love them. I got a friend that has bought 2 beemers back to back. The only issue he has had with either was someone stole his mirrors. Other than that no mechanical problems. Just my two cents.

They have 5yrs/60K to figure it out, If it breaks 3- times Alabama's Lemon Law "let's" them buy it back. ....+I'm strongly considering extended warranty to 100K...
These are expensive to repair when they break.

One week & counting.....MPGs seem to be for real, she burned off the 1st tank on a Banzai run down to Tiger Town over the back roads this weekend.
460 miles  14.1-gallons average 32.6 , computer shows 35.7 overall after the return trip.

There is one flat stretch of I20 we take on the trip to AU for about 12-miles, Beth said she set the cruise on 70MPH & the computer was showing 70MPG as long as there was no uphill.
