imop) not to cause anny confusion , the engine is practically stock for all those parts mentioned , what are the specs on the cam shaft / what compression and is the pistion all the way up at approx zero deck?, to buy 2in headers and a 850 carb for a stock engine is a bit excessive for a street cruiser. just my 2 cents Bill
got to learn to match stuff up!!!
As I keep saying they put 950 CFM 6 packs onto 340s so why would a properly tuned 850 be too big on a a much bigger 440 ??
 It works , Ask MEK
why wouldnt it be too small-340-950 TO 440-850..by that..im going to say the reason is the 3 c's compression,camshaft,carburetion..this three have got to be matched up to get the best performance out of a motor..350 cfm center carb, 500 cfm each outboard carb, total of 1,350 cfm by factory specs..the 500 CFM two barrel = 354 CFM in 4 BBL ratings. Just take the 2 BBL CFM and divide by 1.41. You also have to consider the six pack intake is a divided plenum, which kind of fools the engine. Only half the barrels are exposed to 4 cylinders thus giving a more favorable pressure signal to the carbs. Same philosophy as the 750 - 800 CFM TQ on a smogged out small block with single exhaust. Two totally different concepts here..another words you have only got 478cfms going to one side..that make since..and thats at full throttle..you only drive around on the middle one so you really dont have that much..long story short you cant compare a 6 pack to a 4 barrel..not apples to apples..just my  :2cents:

The engine is practically stock guys. The heads have been full recoed and are standard its bored 20 thou. The cam i will find out soon and piston height. The motor is at a mates place whom im buying it off. Im paying the motor off slowly so im doing research on other parts needed. Btw how does an elec water pump compare to a normal manual 1? I guess u can leave the elec 1 running when u stop the motor to aid cooling if need be? Also you have less drag on ur motor and they look cool :clapping: I will be running thermos and no fan. I appreciate everyones help.

over the life of an engine the mechanical water pump is virtually fool proof , they last a long time as long as the belt doesn1t fail & is not over tightened shortening the life of the brgs

Well ive paid for the 440 now  :droolingbounce: But ive just bought edelbrock heads,a comp cam, crane rockers,3/8 pushrods, new lifters, torquer 2 manifold and a 730 holley carb with annular discharge?? My mate was determined for me to pay off his morgage  :grinno:  Im taking it all to a mechanic today.  The cam specs are in the pic. The motor is bored 20 thou and im told has 18thou between deck an piston. Cast crank and pretty much has just been rebuilt as a standard motor.  What does everybody think of this combo?  :ylsuper: :bananasmi

what combustion chamber size are the eddys? cant read cam specs, what size carb? is the cam hyd ? 2in headers will be just fine , just run a exhaust that isnt 3infor back pressure. look ok , with out the info openions are useless.

Cheers guys :) I was going to go the 850 proform like Chryco said, but this lot of parts came up from my beer drinking buddy cudachall74  :2thumbs: Unlike myself anymore  :poopoke: Has anybody had dealings with 440 source? I was thinking bout buying their billet dizzy as i allready have a msd 6al and msd coil. Also their waterpump an housing is real cheap too! Im looking at maybe a hi volume holley mech fuel pump? Will this be ok?

we have built 12 strokers using 440 source kits & have had no issues , this is not to say there are no issues , the cranks have a wide radius & the brgs need to be clearanced as well as a few other things a good machinist should be checking as the engine is built . We all know Jason dislikes Brandon , but I have not had a problem with him or his parts .

I just checked your cuda out chryco.  :droolingbounce: :wow: What a machine   The parts at 440 source are a lot cheaper than elsewhere! Im just after a waterpump, dizzy and a gasket set! I might just buy the gaskets local as im worried about how easy they could get damaged in transit?

i thought this was a stock build ? funny, guess the after market  parts came later on , well im pretty sure you can use a 2in header with the parts you have and make good power .

It is funny really  :grinyes: I was happy with the stock motor and was planning on buying all the good bits later on!! But my good ol mate whom i bought the 440 off had all these bits sitting around and well........ He just bought himself a roller 360 pumping 500+ hp and being the competitive sort we are,i bought all the go bits :clapping: I cant have ol mate having too much of an upper hand now can i  :naughty:  Might as well go all out hey  Now i just need lots more $$$$$
