Side exit exhaust???
« on: April 07, 2010 - 07:32:53 PM »
Hey Guys,
I'm going to be putting side exit exhaust (AAR or T/A style) on my '72 Cuda.  I've got a few questions in that regard...

1.  From what I've been able to research, the tip hangers are mounted to the inner facing surface of the rear frame rail.  Is that correct and are they welded or bolted on?  If they are bolted on, should the frame rail of a '72 already have the holes?

2.  How are the muffler hangers installed?  Again, I've been looking for pictures and have come up with nothing.  Are the hangers bolted or welded to the floor pan or floor bracing?  I've heard that there are differences in the 70 and other years floor pans.  Do the differences include mounting points for the muffler hangers?

The reason I'm asking is that I was wondering if I should go ahead and order the hangers and put them on (if welding is required) before the underside of the body is primed and painted.  If they are bolt ons, I'll most likely wait until after the paint to put them on.  I'm trying to avoid having to remove freshly laid paint to weld on muffler brackets!!!

Thanks!
Sean

1 - they bolt on but I am not sure if the later years would have provision for the brackets
2 - the hangers are bolted to the brace under the rear seat , the dual exhaust cars have hanger brackets on the both sides

Found this pic of a Cuda AAR clone on ebay.  Kinda give you an idea for the muffler hangers.

Now for the tip hangers...

Scott,
Do you get a lot of movement from the tips since they are not hung from hangers to keep them in place?  I would imagine that they would wiggle quite a bit.  Ever have any issues with them hitting the body?
