YES  it will work , it is a 4spd but 4th is an OD ratio , there are a # of things to do , First machine the front bearing reatiner down to 4.80" & get a belhousing with a matching size hole , they are available new from Brewers for $300
second most of the time you will need to drill & tap the 3 posts on the tailhousing to mount the shifter & get the different mounting pad & longer shifter rods . The 3/4 shift rod will need to be modified to clear the body & reach the 3/4 lever which is pointed down not up like the rest of the shift rods .

The OD gear is actually Third Gear..3rd and 4th gear shift levers are swapped, as well as having an aluminum case...Ask any Chebby guy about the Aluminum Case M21&22 Trans's....I've sold more A833's to Chebby guys than Mopar guys...Running third gear has it's advantages and it's drawbacks..Yeah, that Aluminum trans will bolt up and live for a little while behind a 440, but It will break sooner or later....Turning the Cluster gear while cruising down the highway at 80 MPH with something like 4.30 Gears ends up wearing out the needle bearings on the cluster gear..

I disagree with the break sooner or later comment , they do wear out sooner relatively but give the typical miles put on these older musclecars & the fact I drove a slant 6 truck for 200,000 miles or so & it was well used when I got it with no issue & I beat the heck out of one behind the 440 in my duster with no issue exploding 3 8 3/4 diffs behind it I have not seen them break outright

if it has a side shifter externally mounted it is an 833 , if it is a top style shifter it is not

.......... and make sure you get the shifter with it. It is a Hurst and will work except, as mentioned earlier by CP, you have to drill out the 3 holes at the end of the tail housng and use EBody shifter rods. Saves you a pile of money if you are needing a shifter.
