71 Cuda has come home!
« on: October 03, 2004 - 01:20:33 PM »
I finally got back from getting the Cuda. We had a really good time. As promised I will post many pics. We started out with important prep work on the Yukon. We removed the rear seats and laid a mattress in the back with pillows. We placed foil over all the windows and placed a blanket in the front to make it really dark in the back. And with the rear A/C heat controls it made a really nice trip. My brother and I took turns driving straight through from Denver too Idaho. About 30 hours switching every 6 hours. When we werent naping we were watching DVDs with the portable DVD player. We tied out bags to my lowboy trailer and we were off. Thats my brother in the pic and if yall cant see it. everytime we had to fill up with gas it was just shy of 40 bucks.... OUCH!

we saw some interesting cars on the way. like this shaquar. My wife asked if it was wrong to like that car. teehee, what a good girl, I told her it was wrong to like the jaguar but not wrong to like the classic. and I left it like that, now she has much to think about. I was asleep when we passed through oklahoma and kansas but I drove us into colorado. once in colorado we visited my grandmother and we ate at Texas Road house. Go figure, from texas eating at a fake texas road house. at the road house I noticed just how retarded Denveridians can be.

Just thought I show the rustang, that even in denver they have bad taste. the car with 2 front ends we nicknamed the Kerry. Cause it doesnt know which way it is going either.  ;D :o 8) :P after we ate we went on to idaho where we would pick up the cuda. I slept through the WY sign but I was awake for the Utah sign. and the last picture is me loading the original 383 that goes to the car. did I forget to mention that the 383 is 100 percent rebuildable. The 1 owner of the cuda said it needed to be overhauled so he put a long block in its place. woohoo.

The 383 had plenty of power to drive up onto the trailer.  ;D ;D ;D ;D can yall since my excitment.

also while in utah we went to temple square. this is a really neat place. alot of history and culture here. when walking on the grounds you can feel the peacefullness. we watched the testiment while there as well. if yall ever get a chance to see this movie, do it. I dont cry too often, but the water was turned on this day. the last picture, are the death mask of joseph and hiram smith. it was cool to see something like that. why dont we make death mask today. why did they make them back then. so many questions.

to show just how clean this car really is. I took pics of inside the rear quarter and the frame rails. can you say perfect. also in the previous set of pics you noticed the original owners manuel. and the build sheet still intact.

when looking at it better today I noticed some interesting things. the dash has been recovered. and what they covered were the A/C and heat vents. yup thats right it is an A/C car. I also wondered if the radio worked. It did, nothing wrong with it. came in as clear as it did new. cept for the fact I wasnt born then and cant varify that.  ;D ;D ;D ;D. Can you say wow. the entire trip my wife and I debated which cuda I would sell. and as I type this it feels so wrong but I think I will have to sell the 71. So this beauty is going on the auction block. I am going to put it on ebay starting bid 15k. I wish I could make the buyer give me a contract saying he will restore it back to original. the car is so clean and so close to original it would be crime to let someone like me have it. I would make it into a hotrod. and though I dont car about originality I know many people out there do. and to protect the integrity of the car. I will try to sell it to someone that will restore it to original.

Burpin . . . so you drove all this way to pick up this CUDA just to sell it on e-bay??   ???  ???  ???   Why can't you keep both??  And if you had to choose between a 1971 cuda and another year . . . Wouldn't the 71 be more desirable??  Confusion has set in!!  :P  :P

Oh and love the pics!  Looks like a great trip except for the lost ramp!!

:) Hey Burpin, glad you made it home safe and sound! I forgot to ask you, was this a one owner car? LOL  ;D  You made me turn green all over again with those pictures. Got to go out and get busy on the Chally! See? You've given me inspiriation today!!  Let us know when you have it listed so we can keep a close eye on it! Thanks for the dinner too, that was very fun meeting you and your wife, brother and friend. By the way your friend came and picked up those Chibby engines I told him he could have.  ;D Wonder who ate the ramp while you drove down the freeway!!  :o

Wow, Burpin... that car looks awesome!  That's an easy resto for sure.  What was the original color?  I see it has some green interior parts and white door panels.  Man, if I had the cash, I'd take her off your hands and do her right.  That would be a sweet ride!
