No Spark....not related to car

   My darn weed trimmer won't start.  It's a Stihl FS-36

I have a NO start condition. It is getting fuel, but I think the spark is dead. I can not see any spark jumping across the spark plug electrode.
The plug is new.

Would this test tell me if the ON/OFF (kill switch) was bad?

Use an ohm meter to check for continuity by doing the following:
Remove ignition wire from spark plug.
Place one probe from ohm meter into the empty spark plug wire.
Place the other probe on engine surface.
While reading ohm meter, move switch from ON to OFF and see if the continuity is broken.

So....if the kill switch is working the ohm meter should show signs of continuity breakage as switch is moved from ON to OFF.

Am I on the right thought track here? Mine is showing continuity whether the switch is ON or OFF.
This makes me think that the switch is in the OFF position permanently. Thus causing a no start condition because the spark is being grounded.
Can someone guide me in the right direction?

Sounds like either the ignition control module (even little ones often have them, now), or a bad coil. The switch will only control the primary side of the ignition, grounding it to keep from feeding power to the coil in order to make a spark. You have to see where the kill switch grounds the ignition, in order to know how to test it. If it does ground the secondary side, then it is the likely culprit, but it sounds like something else to me.

Disconnect the Kill switch to test I believe should prove if it's the culprit.

How do I get to the coil from this point? I don't know how to remove the round metal thing with the blue springs from the shaft so I can get the case off.

Oh, fun. Looks lke it's time for a manual. The word "OFF" looks promising; perhaps it is a retainer, and unscrews in the indcated direction.
