Wiper Motor adventures -- Thanks Kim!!
« on: April 10, 2010 - 04:33:25 PM »
I had an old 70 style wiper motor that I planned to clean up and install on my car.  I recently ran across the Passion4Mopars website and noticed that they offered a “rebuild kit” which included new wires and the re plated motor housing for a 70 wiper motor.  I figured I would redo the core myself using the kit.  The pretty gold motor housing arrived in no time, and it even had the right part number and date code for my car.  I was excited to start the project and went to get my wiper motor off the shelf.  When I was moving it to my workbench, I accidentally dropped it and broke off one of the mounting ears.  I posted here to see if anyone had a different core for me to swipe parts from.  There were several offers for free ones from the generous people on here, but it turned out the wiper motors they had were the wrong type.
Kim Leger ( Passion4Mopars) contacted me and offered to send me a free replacement casting already cleaned and ready to go.  I declined her generous offer figuring I would try to do it myself (I am clearly a stubborn fool).  After continuing my local search for a new core, I ended up with one that was almost right.  I didn’t figure out the almost part until I had taken it apart to find it all rusty and non functioning inside.  I got a bit frustrated and put all of the rusty junk and my shiny new rebuild kit into a box and emailed Kim, asking her to give me some idea what it would cost to turn all that junk into a useable wiper motor for my car.  Her reply was “send it here, we will figure it out”.

I sent it to her and was sure to tell her there was no rush. I expected the quote to be the normal price of the work she does plus a core charge for sending in broken and rusty parts.  Just seven days later, I got an email from her stating that my wiper motor was finished and ready to be mailed.  I asked about the cost and her reply was “How about this?  I didn't really incur anything other than a bulkhead clip and some labor on this...we can call it even and if you're happy, simply pass on my name to someone who might be interested in having some wiper motor work done?”  Just to be clear, Kim ended up doing the motor I was struggling with, and then gave me the parts, labor, and shipping for free.
Keep in mind that this is a person whom I had never met, who does this service for a living.  The quality of her work is awesome.  The motor looks nicer than new. Even if I had paid full price for her service plus a core charge, I can honestly say that I would have been extremely happy with the motor.  If you add in the generosity, easy communication, and turn around time I received, I don’t see how you could expect to be treated better by anyone.  If you ever need a wiper motor that looks like new, give her a call.  You may start out doing business, but I bet you will be treated like a friend.

Ooooooo, ahhhhhhh, shiny new 077 motor.....   :bananasmi

Great deal, too.

Don't forget the clamp that holds the flat, incoming wire bundle to the housing.

The picture is one she sent me before shipping.  When it arrived the wire clamp was installed and a little bag with shiny harware was with it.

Looks good Shane, Kim seems nice on the phone. I'm just waiting for her to get a "correct" cylinder for me. Soon I hope....
