70 Challenger R/T Project PRICE REDUCED--SOLD
« on: April 10, 2010 - 10:53:14 PM »
I have a 1970 Challenger R/T NOT NUMBERS MATCHING. 383 4speed, 8 3/4 rear that I started to restore and now need to sell. originally a 3 speed car that was upgraded. I have a fender tag, but no build sheet. The car is still the original color.

The good first
Has good running 383 and a nice shifting 4 speed with new shift assy.
New MOPAR electronic ignition and new dist.
Still has factory exhaust manifolds installed
Floors are good L/F and R/R are new
Rust by front door hinges repaired
Has new subframe connectors
SSBC front disk brake upgrade with all new brake lines and new master cylinder
New Gas Tank
Rear seat and headliner good
Rallye dash
Have all parts to re-install that are missing in pics
Car was running and driving before resto started

Now the bad:
Needs rear 1/4's
Needs front fenders--currently none on the car
needs rear valence
Small rot in rear frame area--already have Safe-T-Cap repair kit to weld on
Needs front seats recovered and new carpet installed--already have carpet
Vinyl top torn and small signs of bubbles underneath top by rear window
Needs complete paint--obviously
Needs dash cap
Heater box needs to re-installed--box included need new heater core.
needs exhaust system

I would like to finish this myself, but other obligations prevent that. $10,500 Neg. Car is located in Long Island, NY

I think most of us are in the same boat!  :banghead:

They need to sell one toy to buy one  :(
Then we blame the poor economy!  :swear:
I found so many car I would instantly buy, but no one as put a 'serious' offer on my Grand National, so i'm broke for car money  :hyper:

The front fenders were rotted and removed to do the repair work just in front of the door hinges. They were not worth fixing. The rear valence was also removed since it needed to be replaced anyway. Here is the repair work. There is a sealant applied over the welds.

Seems like a great project. Buy the time you add the dollars to finish it your asking price seems high. Then factor in the economy.
Good luck with the sale.

Yes that is a nice car, but the price is way high in my opinion.  You can get numbers matching 383 RT's for less.

However, I hope you get what your asking for as that would be a great sign the market is going up.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

The car market at the moment is dead. This is coming from a fellow Long Islander. You would think if you could sell your car anywhere it would be there. If I were you I'd give NY Craigslist a shot. I posted a 1966 Ford Bronco U13 roadster on there and finally got a call from an investment banker in Manhattan before I came south. I didn't get a hit on Classicbroncos.com. Things were so bad on the Island I came back to my shop in the south. Old car country.

Don't give up just yet. I don't know how much you have in the car but I wouldn't go any less than that.

The cost to restore your car is much higher than to buy one done. Years back, yours would of sold  in days....good luck

Restoration costs continue to climb and classic car values have dropped considerably. You are dead on HemiOrange.  :money:

I figure it would be worth something to someone with body work skills. That would keep the restoration price somewhat OK.

Yes, even with free labor from someone who knows what they are doing, it's still priced high.  It's a tough market right now and like everyone is saying, the cost of material and parts keep going up and the values are not.  On top of that you're missing both fenders (probably $1,000 to get new ones).  Most cars have at least repairable fenders.

I think it's a 7 to 8K car.  I know body work and I think you're better off trying to find someone that doesn't if you're going to get 10K.  Just my opinion.  Nothing against the car.... it's awesome!
