360 oil filter adapter seal blow out
« on: April 11, 2010 - 12:06:58 AM »
Anyone ever have the seal behind the oil filter adaper blow out?  I just got a 79 Lil Red Express with the 360 and it puked all over my garage and driveway.  After taking off the oil filter, I noticed a short section of gasket sticking out.

HELP!  What the heck!  Here is the deal, I can't get the dadgum oil filter adapter to spin off.  Is it realy just a 3/8" drive, Lefty loosy, righty tighty?  I can see part of the gasket sticking out, could it be binding the threads?  I have had a 1/2" breaker bar and a 1/2" electric impact.  What am I missing?  Do I need to press a pin in? Am I going to break something?

I'm not sure but the guys over at Manici Racing would know which way to turn it.

if ypu are talking about the 90* adapter on the block with the huge nut in the center it is a normal right hand thread & they are usually very tight

Sorry I couldn't respond, I have been traveling for business and couldnt log on.  I'll check at Mancini to see if they have any insignts.  Its not the 90 degreeone, though thanks for the reply.

My next move is to try a 1/2" drive air retchet to break it loose, though again, the question is left or right.

I got it off.  Thanks to everyone for the comments.  I had to use a 1/2" impact at 100PSI for about 5 seconds to break it loose.

Now the cuda project can start.  I bough the truck to transport the engine and tranny to and from the shop and have some fun along the way.
