I little input on tire rim combo 70 cuda
« on: April 11, 2010 - 10:13:03 AM »
I know there are a lot of threads and I went through a 29 page post, but here is what I am looking at and need some input. :)

I currently have 4 magnum 500s 14" rims with 225x70x14s all the way around. I wish I could get a 60 series tires in a 14 for the rear that is taller than a 225x70x14 out front, but the 245s 60s are shorter, so unless I dropped all the way down to a 205x70x14 out front I can not get the correct stance.

I also feel that that is going to make the car sit pretty low too.

So here is what I think I am going to go with.

BFGoodrich - T/A Radial - P225/70R14 - front on stock magnum 500s

BFGoodrich - T/A Radial - P255/60R15 - rear on 15x8 magnum 500s by stockton

I think this will make the car have a fairly stock look still with only a slight rake and more meat out rear, I know many install 275s and even larger out back, but I do not want it to tall and do not want and fender rubbing etc. I think my combo is fairly mild. My only other thought is maybe to go with 245x60x15s out back then it is darn near level with no rake?

Thoughts input on this combo (s)

Also on the 15x8s, do I need a 4" or 4 1/4 back space or what is best? I do not want to rub on either side and car has no air shocks or sping lifts etc.

Thanks guys this should look good correct?  :2thumbs:

Me thinks the 15" Magnums have a different look than the Stock 14" Road Wheels, I'm not sure there is a matching 15" trim ring. ..... 4" backspace is normal until you try to maximize sizes
While your doing it get 4-15" rims, your tire selection will be greater & if you want to go wider in the rear you can move the 255's to the front.  :2cents:
Are you wanting Raised White Letter tires?...More options without.

225/60/15 front  275/60/15 rear is what I did. Nice rake, and no clearance issue's.  :dunno:

Thanks here is a picture of what I have now what do you think? Will the stocktons match these?

Yes I hear ya on the 15's all the way around and have thought of that too. I also do like the 15s on the rear in case I ever did want to add disc to the rear as well, and a small 15 out front would be ok, but if the rims look the same I may go with the 14s.

Let me know..

I originally had 14's front.. did the front disc brake conversion (which I highly recommend) so 15's just made sense.

:bananasmieither keep what you have or go with 15" all around.i went with 235/60-15 and 255/60-15 on my -70 cuda on 7" oem wheels.if you are going true 340 cuda route i think 15" would have been factory mounted.next time im going to try 225/70-15and 255/70-15.

What if I stayed with the rims I have and went with 245x60x14s all the way around? Will these fit on the stock rims? I am not sure how wide these rims are?

A 225x70 is 26.5 tall
A 235x60 is 25.1 tall
A 245x60 is 25.6 tall

The factory Cuda T option was T86 was a F70-14 was 26.2 tall
The U 82 option was a E-60-15 25.5 tall

So it seems like the 245x60x14 about the exact same height and width on a 14 that the 15" optioned cars came with.

I checked my tags and my 14 road wheels came with the car as did f-70-14s.

Bottom line is that if I went this way the tires are 1" shorter so car would sit 1/2 lower and the tires are about 1.1" wider. Main issue is will they fit the 14" stock rim? 235s fit on a 6.5 rim and 245s are on 7"s low end of scale.

man what to do what to do!   I think 235-60-14s would fit for sure on the rims, but make the car sit on the low side, that would be yet another 1/4 closer to the ground and 1 1/2 " less overall than my 225-70s, and that smaller size is very little gain in width too.

WIDTH is the problem IF your 14" wheels are the same dimensions as my OEs then they are only 5.5" wide...I have used 235-60s & they are more than the rim can really hold well, causes the center to bulge. 245s would be worse.

Thanks I did measure the rims, well had them checked at a local shop, they are 7" wide rims so I am thinking it is best to go 15s all the way around.

Has anyone bought wheels from Specialty Wheel? They use the same 3 plate chrome process as stocken and from what I have seen their wheels are much better than the vintage classic stuff on Sumit.

So I may just do 245 60 15s rear and 235 60 15s up front then. It turns out the TAs are on at least a month national back order for 255 60 15s.

Should put the car about about the same as the factory height and no change needed to my speedo gear.

OK finally got her done:) I went 245x60x15s rear which is real close to the factory days, I was going to do 255s but they are on antional back order and since I was up in the air I decided smaller instead, not a huge diff, and I went with the 235x60x15s out front. All on 15x7s, maybe next time around I will do the 255s out back and could always put the 245s up front. Is kinda cool since I have an A body that runs 235s rear and 215s front, but has room for 245s out back.

Lowered the front end about 1/2" from the old 14s, has a slight rake and much better foot print, drives so much better and looks right too.

Well here are a few pics.
