Can you get the same performance out of a 360 stroker versus a 340?

With the same combo, minus the parts that aren't interchangeable (I have no idea what isn't, but I'm sure there are some parts), can you get the same performance out of a 408 versus a 416?

I wouldn't see why not.  The 340 only possesses two advantages over the 360:
1) It's iconic...same reason that people still build 289's and 327's.
2) The shorter stroke, larger bore revs faster

That said, give them the same stroke and you eliminate the apparent advantage that the 340 has.

Weren't the 340 blocks cast better than the later 70's and all of the 80's 360 blocks? What about the main journals being smaller (but far big enough) in the 340's.

It's going to be close enough that it just won't matter.  360's are dirt cheap, I'd go that way.

Oh, I was just curious; I have a 340 block, but I was looking to see if a stroker 360 short block would be cheaper than getting my block done.

Keep the 340 standard worth more that way, do the 360 motor should be a lot of fun.

There is virtually no difference in terms of parts or machining costs. Output wise, I think there would be a very slight (like under 2%) difference in power with the larger bore and shrouding. There is no better or worse in terms of bore thickness. All mopars are a crap shoot and you should plan to have the block sonic tested prior to any machining and parts ordering.

Agree with Moper, if you have a 340 and do want the historic value of the year it matches a car go for it, but a 360 is cheaper.

I have a 340 from a 70 car in an A body, is a beast with a capital B. Never a stock big block ran like this.

Either way to do it correct you will spent at least 6-7k when it is all said and done to make 500+ hp.
