Hi ALL-
I received an email back from Redline:

Thanks for your inquiry.  Please give us a call at 661-259-8891 as it is a conversion rather than a part.

Shannon Hudson, Owner
Redline Gauge Works

I'll give them a call tomorrow (too busy today),
Ron

Thanks for the awesome writeup UKCuda!

I think may stick my hand up there and see if I can reach the studs to check their fit.....When I was up under there before getting the car on the road to install the stereo, etc. I was impressed how clean and untouched it looked under there.....the backs of the gauges looked clean..no rust etc....

But worth checking for sure.

I will just watch it real close for now I think and address...like you said....once I get some other things done.  I dont want to have two open cans of worms at once...LOL

No worries mate,

We have a saying (maybe common to the US I don't know) "Let sleeping dogs lay".  Anyway you can do that for now.

Just leave the ammeter alone until you have the other stuff done.  Then sort it out.  Hell it's been in there for 40 years - if it decides to go AWOL just now then that is basically an act of God and you can't plan for that.

I waited until I had smoke pluming from behind my dash to bypass my amp gauge. I also installed a fire extinguisher  :22yikes:

:22yikes:  Dont know that I want to go THAT long!  LOL

I read on the a-body forum that some guys just take one wire off the ammeter and connect it to the same post as the other.....instead of disconnecting both and bolting together.

Wondering if this would be easier to do for me, as my dash is still together....

I would bolt both ends to each other with a screw and nut then put a big piece of heat shrink over it. The problem is that the stud shorts to the aluminum housing and smokes both wires. The fusible link can kill one side of the circuit but the alternator can self excite and keep frying the wires till it opens up. That means 3 legs of your wiring harness can melt from one short.

Hi All-
I fianally had a chance to call Redline (661-259-8891).  Very nice people.
Basic process for Amp to Volt meter;
- Remove your Amp meter and send it, along with the pot metal housing to Red Line.
- They replace the meter with a new VDO Volt meter
- They modify the hosing to accomadate the new meter
- they rewire the whole assembly, and send it back to you
-- Cost is $140 +shipping
Not a bad deal

Does it sweetp LEFT to RIGHT?

DOes that include changing the silk screen of both the gauge face and the clear bezel-holding FUEL-TEMP-OIL-VOLT gauge cover?

Is that for both Rallye and non-Rallye types?

I think it'd be worth first trying the cheapo Sun gauge retrofit and if it works, just send the aforementioned silk screen faces to redo.

Often happens like that with electrical stuff.
They look to be in perfect order........until they're not.

Brad. for a standard guage cluster, I would use rt-eng.coms unit. It uses a spare Temp or gas guage.

Right now I'm looking for a spare rally gas guage to convert my rallye cluster.  I can change the lettering with rub on stencils.

I am pretty sure they will do this @ Carlisle for you if you bring it. I saw them last year and inquired about fixing my tach.
