Redline made a voltmeter first. You may want to see what their price is.

It's for sure somewhat overpriced, but the car and the peace od mind is worth it?
I'm gonna get another amp gauge and send it to dashworks then pick it up at Carlisle if it all work out?

Well, I already have an aftermarket gauge cluster installed below the dash and have a voltmeter in it....I can live without the in dash one, for $200. Just hate to have a nunfunctional gauge there, or a dead hole.

I wonder if the "clock" can be moved to the current ammeter hole?  I have my aftermarket tach mounted in front of the correct clock hole right now.

My original Rallye dash had a 3" Sun tach in place of the original slow tach. Why not put your volt meter in the clock hole?

I have a standard dash....my tach is currently mounted in front of what would be the clock spot (if I had a clock) and I kinda like it there....

Meanwhile I bought a gauge cluster that also has the clock....

So I was thinking I would like to keep my tach where it is and put the clock somewhere, maybe in place of the ammeter. And just keep using my summit voltmeter. But not sure it would work that way or not.

But if I were to have the ammeter converted to voltmeter, I would need to move my tach if I wanted to keep the clock....that would result in a "correct" cluster.,....

LOL

Basically just trying to decide what to do I guess...LOL

I know that Dash Worx sells a mini tach that goes into the clock spot. Maybe you can move the clock to the amp spot. (since you want to keep the clock too)

I actually have two gauge clusters...one is the "good" one with the clock in it etc, and the otehr is a mistake I bought...LOL (bad speedo I think).....so I may try and see what can be done with that one.

I have been holding off on swapping this in .....worried about pulling the cluster on my car and screwing something up...so figured I would address it after memorial day weekend.

Just got through on the phone to dash works..... apparently the don't do standard dash amp conversions? They said they have never done one????   But they could try if I wanted????  That doesn't instill a lot of confidence to me?   Going to try Redline next.

Shouldn't this be a recall from Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler???
Anyone look into it???

Back in the late 80's, we received a recall letter from Ford regarding a steering segment/part on a 1972 Ford Car.

Let us know what they charge for that.  I went ahead and bought 3 of these for $1 each. I might try to put it on the dash somewhere. I already removed my AMP gauge and have a blank spot there, so I might try to put it in from behind. The cluster that I just put in last week had a shorted ammeter.

There was no TSB or recall for ammeters for our cars. They started going to voltmeters in the later 70s

Interesting........  They are the ones that e-mailed me back with all of the info about silkscreening, converting, selling the sending unit, etc.

Dear shelbydogg,

We offer the volt meter conversion for $150.00. You would need to send us your current ammeter gauge and we will convert it to a volt meter for you. This price includes the new gauge, silkscreening the face, painting the needle, calibrating your new gauge, the volt meter sending unit and the wiring. You will also need to purchase one of our voltage limiters if don't already have one in order for the voltmeter sending unit to work. Our limiter's are $50.00. We recommend that you convert your ammeter to a volt meter if your alternator puts out over 70 amps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you for your business,

Sounds like you called the wrong DASH WORKS, instead of DASH-WORX?

I called RTE - Dash Worx  I said I would like the gauge to read Volts instead of amps....they said they have never /can't do that? They also said they only have done amp gauges for ralley dashes not non-rally amp gauges?

I bought a gauge cluster from a friend for $10, out of a 98 Dodge van. It has a voltmeter that points to the right and swings up from the down position. This would be perfect for my voltmeter conversion. I can rotate it downward and install it where the ammeter is. Some of those other companies install voltmeters but they swing to the left, which won't look right in my eye. Here is the meter. it will have to be trimmed down. I will leave it saying "'ALT" and not change it to volt.

Before it fits it will have to bet trimmed down and a hole drilled.
