Location of jack brackets and spare tire holddown bracket
« on: April 14, 2010 - 12:27:22 PM »
While I have the fuel tank out of the Cuda, I thought I could weld the missing brackets into the trunk. Does anyone have any photos and or dimensions of the locations of these brackets so I can put them in the correct spot? I guess who ever replaced the trunk floor before I bought the car, never bothered to transfer the brackets. I bought new repro brackets from Mega parts. The Cuda is a '73.

I'd be interested in seeing it too!  I'll be doing the trunk floors and extensions shortly and am curious as well.

Did you get the jack bracket that goes on the outer wheel house too?  I've been looking all over for one.

djwhog,
I got your PM but my Internet Explorer wont open the page when I hit reply.  From your message, are you talking about the bracket that is located by the tail panel ot the bracket that is on the wheel well housing?

You can get the wheel well jack bracket here:  http://www.megapartsusa.com/proddetail.asp?prod=160%2DJB103

The bracket that goes on the trunk floor near the tail panel is readily available, I'm sure Dave or Nick (forum sponsors) would be able to hook you up with one!

Cheers!

Thanks Sean, I have the wheel well, it is the floor one at the bottom that is missing, I was able to find what I think is it, how would it attach, does it need to be welded in?

If I'm not mistaken, they were spot welded in at the factory so you would weld them in.  The bracket trunk floor bracket was gone when I got my car.

Crud, I put mine in wrong, just asked about it in my resto thread, I tried to make the spring catch the jack on the point that goes in the bumper thats why the bends in the spring didn't match up, I love this place, we're all going thru  or have gone thru the same stuff!
too bad I ruined the paint on my bracket to put the spring on it, probably get worse when I take it off! :bricks1:

Thanks guys got it!

OK looks like I am missing the spring stap tto, what is the official name and can I get this at Mega Parts too?

I have the pring and the felt and the top resting mount, looks like someone on my car connnected the spring to the well well hump through an eye hole near the top, I see now that this is wrong for a 70? correct..?

Can someone give me a measurement of where the rear bracket and spring bracket get welded? I would like to weld them in and don't want to end up putting them in the wrong spot.
Is it safe to assume the bracket for the spare tire holddown is centered (left to right) in between the wheelwells?
