Your math is correct but, I think you forgot to mulitply the Viper values X2 ( 4 pistons per caliper) ?
So that's about 8.6 square inches ?
Those piston dia. are for 2001 and up Vipers . The 94-2000? pistons  ( I'm not sure but I believe them to be 38mm and 40mm) still researching on the net...

Good catch!  Now I can see the advantage, that's quite a bit more contact area.

Let me know if you find a good source for the calipers, it's going to be hard for someone as cheap as me to pull the trigger for $500 on used parts that probably need rebuilt.  Sounds like the switch will end up around $700-$1000?

Do you really multiply the pistons by 2 for the 4 pistion design?  I found this Mopar Action article that comes up with the same surface area as I did.

I have the aluminum Dr. Diff master Cyl hope that works ok?
Have you ( or anyone) driven a car with them on( Viper calipers)? Huge difference? I mean , sure they look trick but do they perform?

You should be good with that master cylinder.

I have not used either set up yet as I haven't got that far on my car, and I always end up selling the sets I put together, so I have not personally driven either of the ARE kits yet. What I have heard from people who have used them is the lighter weight is a big advantage and the pedal feedback is much improved The pad selection also factors in considerably when you use the car for things other than street driving. Tom Quad, a member here, uses the Wilwood set up on his street drive road racer AAR and he sings its praises as one of the best setups you can make next to sticky tires.

Also keep in mind that it isn't all about total piston area. The 1st and 2nd gen Viper calipers are all four piston design. The fixed caliper design clamps the rotor from both sides, unlike the stock floating design that only has a piston on one side. The four piston design provides more consistent clamping force over a wider area some over all force is improved and driver feedack is improved.

While the caliper change does improve braking some, it's a smal gain. It's biggest gain is in reductions to unsprung weight and driver feedback.  The biggest gains in actual braking capability would come from increased rotor size. Bigger rotors impart more leverage to the braking process, which is why the move to 16 and 17 inch wheels provides a huge leap in potential performance if oufollow through with the whole package.

I'd say you do!  Makes sense to me anyhow?  If you have 4 pistons you would have to add up them all for the total? I think the Mopar Action article is incorrect?

HP2 , do you know if the rear calipers on the newer Vipers ( orange) are the same sizes as the front Calipers on the older Vipers? ( Black)? Do you know if they are physically the same size ( outside)? What about piston diameters? I know the front calipers on the newest gen of Vipers have bigger pistons than the older Vipers had. I don't know for sure but they look physically bigger on the outside too? Do you know if the fronts or rears ( latest generation of Viper) will fit with 15" rims?
I'm wondering if the rears will fit with 15" rims?
I have a line on the rear calipers from the newer generation of Viper and wonder if they will fit?
Thanks Brad

Ok got some calipers, now I'm looking for brake lines?( braided stainless) I was looking on the ARE site and they say they use Goodridge hoses. but the part # they give I can't seem to find anywhere? When I google it nothing comes up but the ARE site?
