1972 cuda with a sunroof ????
« on: April 18, 2010 - 12:27:00 PM »

This cuda has a sunroof.  The guy says it is original.  I was unaware that any cuda came with a sunroof.  Is this for real.  He says it is on the build sheet.

How many came with this option?

Cuda Hunter-
Back around 1992-1994 I had a 72 340 Cuda with the sunroof.
Galen Govier read the fender tag.  He said that only 33 sunroofed Cudas were made.
Mine was originally Hemi Orange.  When I bought the car it was prime gray.  I had it painted blue.  The judge gave the Cuda to the ex-wife, I got the brand new Dodge mini-van.  She traded the Cuda for a small econo-box.  The dealership, not knowing that it's a factory sunroof car spot welded the roof shut and had a black vinyl roof put on.  I saw the car at a used car lot, tried to talk to the manager, but he wasn't around.  The next day the car was gone. This all took place here in OKC.

So, if you come across a 1972 blue auto Cuda, front disk brakes, raisin-bran hood (with the scoop section painted black) and a 70 Hockey strip on it, and no fender tag (I have it here somewhere); sit in the driver's seat and reach up, you may just be able to push the headliner a few inches higher than on a normal car.

That is quite the story.  Too bad they closed it up.
Of course the dealer didn't know it was a sunroof car since it didn't have the fender tag.  You should find it and post the vin up here.  Then maybe the tag would find it's way back to the original car!!

Thanks for sharing.  Very rare option indeed. :thinkerg:

The actual metal fender tag is somewhere at the houes.  I looked for it, again, but did not find it.  I did find the letter from Govier.  Scanned it in, but can't upload PDFs.

I know this is very old, but I was surfing the web for my friends old orange cuda and came across this.

My friend also had an orange with white top  and white interior. It had a factory power metal sunroof. It was stolen and later recovered stripped and in the process of being restored. He never got the car back as it say in storage while the court date went on. The car was sold on craigslist through the wrecker company. This happened in okc, oklahoma as well. I was hoping someone knew what happened to this car age has it been restored. I'd love to see pics of it if so.

The car is gone from my friend and whoever has it is the rightful owner now, but these cars are like kids to guys like us and I've always wanted to see it done.

 The G20063

Can anyone verify that this is a sunroof code?

G means outside modification and/or sunroof. The few 1972 sunroof barracudas I've seen had G-VONs.

Since this is a June build date but a VON of 63 leads me to believe either built as a pre production car or there are 63 E Bodies sunroof cars made to that point.  The issue is the sequence number it starts with a 4, my charger built 606 starts with 19.
