Wow the hotel is full already  :clueless:

Sounds like the womens softball tournament is back again?
They booked a bunch of rooms last time I was there.

Booked through Orbitz, got a room for <80 night.  Seems like there are still plenty of rooms?

I have stayed in this area before and usually use Priceline when I am on business. I am arriving Thursday the 8th and leaving the 11th. I did the name your price and after several days of lowballing I got the 3*Sheraton 4-points in Harrisburg for $56 per nite. If you are not familiar with Priceline you can read about it on one of the sites dedicated to those of us that have to get the absolute most for their money on a fixed expense account. www.biddingfortravel.com is one... I rarely pay more than 50% of the regular rate for rooms. If anyone can't find a room and wants to try for the Harrisburg area I can help you if you need assistance... Just pm me...See you in Carlisle!!

I think priceline is probably great for an individual or maybe two people traveling together.

For a family, though, not so much.

As noted on the biddingfortravel siet and also explained on the priceline site:

"You are only guaranteed a room with double occupancy, regardless of what type of rooms the hotel may offer. You cannot bid for a specific hotel. Any special requests must be made directly with the hotel once your bid has been accepted, but the hotel is not obligated in any way to accommodate the request. It is very important to note that there are some hotels that Priceline uses that offer only one bed in a room, especially when bidding 1* or 2*, but it has happened at all quality levels. This should be taken into account if you require more than one bed. As to smoking/non-smoking, a hotel will take a request but can offer no guarantees. There is no way to bid for a suite or for a room with kitchen facilities. Again, you are bidding for a room only and neither bedding requests nor smoking/non-smoking requests can be guaranteed. "

We require two beds (pref queen) and non smoking...neither of which can proveline guarantee.

Would love to save the money.........  :banghead:

Everything you said is true BUT so is the following, hotels routinely overbook just like airlines and sometimes your bedding preference is not available even if you reserve it and guarantee the room. I've booked well over a hundred rooms on priceline and I've only been denied my bedding preference less than 5% of the time, especially if I check in early. The smoking preference has never been a problem since Pricelines biggest contracts are with Marriott and Starwood (Sheraton) and nearly all of their properties are non smoking. I never bid below a 2* on properties that way I avoid the Super 8 type properties. If you look at the bidding sites you will notice most of the wins are at the 3* or better properties since they usually have more rooms and at around $50 avg. they represent a much larger bargain than winning a Super 8 and saving 8-10 bucks...If worried about getting multiple beds just bid for two rooms at the 3* level and pay less than you would for one at the normal rate. Or check out the possibles on the lists at the bidding sites and see if the rooms thay offer have sleeper sofas. My 2 cents from my experiences, I never said this would work in every instance but its just another option for those needing a place to lay their head...
This Property is 100% Non-Smoking

At Four Points by Sheraton, the well being and comfort of our guests and associates are important to us. So we’re proud to announce this property is now 100% smoke-free. Call it our version of the clean air act. Contact the hotel with any questions.

I had booked with the CC.com "favorite" hotel in New Cumberland last year....got there at 8pm and they had given my room away altogether and just said "sorry".....I lucked out and got into a room next door at the Rodeway Inn for the same rate, but just barely, and it took a good hour to do so....so I know what you say is true....

By reserving ahead thru the hotel, at least I have the option at the beginning to get two queen beds in a room....I have never had many issues with the desired pre-booked room not being available aside from last year....so better than a 90% chance of getting the room I want, albeit more money..........With priceline, you cant specify at all....so you are 50/50 going in......and you dont know WHAT you will get. You also cant specify what property you want to try for, right?  You get what they get you.....do you have the option of backing out once you find out what the property is?

For a single traveler, its an awesome deal I guess.  For a family of 4 (with kids), I need a bit more of a guarantee, even if that guarantee isnt 100%.

Bidding for two rooms could be an option....but I would need rooms that connect (two kids), and not all places have that. Plus, if the idea is saving money, that wouldnt necessarily save much.

Funny you mention Super 8.  I actually specifically look for those types......motels versus hotels....mostly due to rate, but also because frankly I prefer to be able to park right outside my door.....with those hi-rise or multi floor internal-entry hotels, thats not possible.....I would probablty sleep right thru someone messing with my car anyways....LOL...but it makes me feel better knowing I am close to it.

I have stayed at some nice properties in NY....at $400-500 a night....and frankly , aside from the bathrooms having marble, etc and a large LCD TV versus a tube type,  the rooms arent really all that different...once you are asleep you dont care about he marble. LOL.  I dont need fancy....just clean and relatively comfortable.  I saw the room at the "better" quality inn in new cumberland last year and frankly I liked the Rodeway Inn room better.

Anyways, after walking all day at Carlisle in the heat I am ready to pass out at the end of the day.....I could probably sleep in a storage shed just fine....wife wouldnt care for that...the kids would think it was like camping...LOL

I am in total agreement with you on the kids and car issue. Having the car right outside your room is a definite plus, this post was mainly aimed at those people that were just attending the event and not having a car or kids to look after. It doesn't work for everyone but for a single person or a couple it's a fantastic way to get a nice room at a big savings. I am 50 plus with major back trouble and I really love the beds at the Sheraton (Starwood) properties. I have to stay in alot of hotels and I find lower star level properties beds often hurt my back so I try to get what works for me. To answer some of your questions, no you can't back out, no you can't specify the property but you can specify the quality level and since Priceline uses zones you only have a few possibles in each zone so its fairly easy to narrow it down unless you are in NYC or LA...Thats why I always try for the nicer properties, the level of quality is more consistent and you will find the price difference is minimal between the 2* to 3 and 4* properties. We stayed at the Courtyard Airport Columbus last year for the Nats for $42 p/n plus tax for 4 nites but it was just my wife and a rentacar..Just trying to save someone a few bucks and get a decent room, If I can help let me know. BTW I hope to meet some of the members while in Carlisle!

Flying, I have a little business to do on Thursday then I will drive to Harrisburg that afternoon. I don't have to fly back out until Monday so I got a Delta flight out of Harrisburg. Moparal is driving up (never met him even though we are only 30 miles apart) he has offered to bring back anything I buy if he has the room. My Nephew may meet me there, it will be his first major show...

You'll have a good time at the show.

Last year Al brought a truck big enough to tow the queen Mary back to Alabama.    :grinyes:

Isn't it nice Viperman keeps us updated?     :dupe:

Dude - trying to buy a house, working 50-hour weeks, whaddaya want from me?  :)  Every time I get real involved in setting stuff up, no one shows.  :)

I booked my room months ago, but just registered for the show last week.  I probably won't be able to cook on Saturday (lunch) because all of my grilling stuff is in the middle of a 10x30 storage facility that is PACKED end-to-end.  Even if we close on this house (which I suspect problems will arise,) we still don't move until the end of July.

Anyhoo, there are a ton of hotels in the area - it sucks that this one is full (has that ever happened before?) but I'm sure there are other options nearby that members can still join up at the main hotel at night without feeling like they have a long drive to get to their hotel.

I want to TRY and formalize our dinner plans for Saturday, but I need people to PROMISE that they're coming or not so I don't make an ass of myself like I did two years ago.  If we want the buffet, we should really have at LEAST 20 people coming (including spouses, kids, etc.)

I hear ya on the back issues....same here....in fact just got shots in my back yesterday....not sure they are working or not yet.  :(

Thats why the double queen bed deal is important for me....I'm a big guy and when we get a double bed room I have to share one with one kid and my wife shares the other bed with the other kid....and even then double beds are so damn small.  Wake up all twisted and gnarly.  :stomp:

Of course I am used to king size...LOL

So being able to specify (at least in theory) two queen beds is a ntter option for me than leaving it up to a computer somewhere...I am a frugal SOB, but I try and optimize....LOL
