Well I have the engine out.  I changing the rear main seal.  Wondering should there be a little gasket sealer between the main bearing cap and the block.  This would be on either side of the crank where there is no gasket between the block and the rear main seal retainer.

I found some of the older threads on the rear main seals.  I have the older style side gasket's/sealers and the directions said to soak in mineral spirits first.  And once in the engine it would swell and sealing.  It wouldn't make sense to put gasket sealer on the sides if I have soak the side seals in mineral spirits.  What do is everybody think.

I picked up the seals at Advanced Auto parts.  It is a Fel-Pro.  It came with the side seals.  But now that I have soaked the side seals in mineral spirits I am not sure what to do to make sure it doesn't leak.  To much trouble to do this again.
