I use Trend Micro and haven't had any problems. I use to use AVG and Ad-Aware but they kept letting viruses through. I had to wipe my computer and reinstall everything. So I asked the Geek Squad at Best Buy what to get and they said Trend Micro. No problems since. And I download all kinds of music, which is where I got the original viruses.

Virus scanners work on pattern recognition.  When a program is compiled it is transformed from human readable words and phrases into machine language.  What this means is that it is broken down into a pattern of 1s and 0s.  The virus scanner will look through all your data and search for known patterns that match virus patterns in its database.  It doesn't take much to change the virus pattern enough to confuse the Virus scanner.  On the other hand, there are normal legit software that has code patterns that are similar to virus code.  The scanner will flag these false positives and will usually ask you if  you want to delete or remove the pattern/file.  A virus scanner company has to first encounter and identify a new form of virus and then issue an update to their database which usually takes time.  The fight against the virus writers is nonstop.

I use Trend Micro.  I also don't use Internet Explorer which is a main target of hackers due to its security holes, nor do I use Windows a majority of the time (Linux).  You can better protect yourself if you turn off Java and disable ActiveX controls on your Window's browsers, but then most of the internet won't work for you :(

I also do not use Windows, I'm using Ubuntu.  What distro do you use and how do you like it?

I also use Ubuntu.  I tried it about 5 years ago and haven't looked back.  Each release it gets better and better.

I played around with Yellow Dog, SuSE, Fedora Core, Kate, Gentoo and Kubuntu before settling down on Ubuntu.

Any ideas on what exactly is the cause of virus warnings from this site?

Could be anything from a stray cookie or a driveby.  The admins will have to make the call.

Still happening  :dunno:  No problems this morning, but I get on maybe 15 minutes ago and already have had a "aleart" that a virus had attempted to enter my computer two different times but blocked. Has Ross been notified or is he aware that this is happening ?  Mods. . ?

Could you post the warning? It might give some clues.

The only problem I have with the site is it freezes up sometimes. It's the only one on my puter that does it. When it happens I just close it and reopen it, then it works again.

I just got a notice from Norton that it blocked an attack from this site also. First one I've gotten. I'm running Firefox Mozilla.

Haven't had anything yet, I run Firefox, as has been said some anti virus can read a pic file or even some of the pop up type ads as a string to be careful of.

I got it a couple of days ago, and then again tonight.  (Internet Explorer 8 with Windows 7).

When I got the message tonight, I only had C-C.com open, and I had just opened the thread called 'Yikes! Trunk lid gaps' when it appeared.

Here is the error message that Norton showed (I just blocked out my IP address):
