My 72 'cuda project
« on: April 26, 2010 - 04:10:43 AM »
Well the title says it all, I just got a 72 cuda and the project has begun. The body is straight with some minor patching that needs doing. And I got a truck and a 1/2 full of parts lol. The goal for this year is to get the body perfect and ready for paint. I will leave the whole thing primered except for the interior, jamming all the hidden spots, inside the trunk, and the engine bay.

Here are the pics of what I am starting with, and I should have more pics of work completed before the year is up. I already ordered a 72 grille, because I didn't have one........well at least not one in one piece lol. I will also be ordering new front fenders, as mine aren't even the proper year. Along with rear 1/4 patch panels.

Oh yeah, just a heads up. I have already put these pics in another post for someone else. But figured since this was a build thread I might as well put them here too.

Ok, so I have my grille in. I've gotten an AAR rear spoiler (wanted to make the holes for it while doing body work). Got in my sub frame connectors from XV as well as the radiator underbrace. Still waiting on the XV inner fender braces but they are on the way. Just ordered my front fenders from year one, but they said it could take anywhere from 1-4 weeks for me to get it (that sucks).

So in a couple months the cuda will be on it's way to the body shop! Going to have all that installed, whole car brought down to bare metal any imperfections fixed and have her primered and undercoated!

Didn't bother posting pics of the parts I got in.........but if anyone wants to see them let me know and I will throw them up lol.

Here is the grille. Cost me $800 on ebay which kind of sucked, but I was willing to go up to $1000 since they are difficult to find.

Here is the main pile of random parts that I have either collected or came with the car. The subframe connectors, radiator brace and spoiler were in the very back of that pile and I was running a little short of time so I didn't yank them out to take pictures.....but I will!

Here are the inner fender braces that I just got in. I didn't have time to stick them into the ever growing pile of parts I have so it was easy to get to, to take a pic of lol. The grille was in the front of the pile for those wondering why I had time to get to that.

I should get a chance here in the next couple of days to take pics of the spoiler, subframe connectors, radiator support, and I'll even throw in pics of the front seats I found for it. Their just stock seats but I didn't have any before so...

Finally got the cuda back from the body shop. I had new fenders put on (rough install) primered, had the rear quarters repaired and primered, interior, engine bay, and trunk inside painted (house of kolor lapis blue bc5) He also welded in the radiator brace, inner fender braces, and the sub-frame connectors.

This is just a rough finishing obviously, as I still have a lot of work to do I just wanted the body work done and the interior bays painted. Those little patches you'll see on the primer is fill in for the pin-prick sized holes left after he primered.

Not really. I stopped in a few times, but he is a pretty secretive kind of guy. And with how much other work he was doing at the time I didn't want to keep bothering him.
