73 Challenger hood hinge rivet replacement
« on: May 02, 2010 - 11:29:19 PM »
I've bought new rivets for my hood hinges and was going to take the old ones out but I was only sent 10 rivets and there are 7 rivets in each hinge not 5 like I was sent. I figure that 2 of the rivets must not wear so you they don't need to be replaced. Here is a picture of one of my hinges and if anyone knows which ones wear out let me know.

You found rivets for those things   :clueless:  wow. i guess i didnt search around enough. I finally bought a set of new ones, which i had to take one to a machine shop and have fixed. The manufacture put the bar that attaches to the hood on upside down. No way was it ever going to fit. I should have sent the darn thing back, but it didn't cost me any thing to get it fixed. Pays to know the right people.  Good luck on your hinge rebuild.   :2thumbs:

You have two "PIVOT PINS" on each of your hinges. They are the two that have the slots around them. The other five on each hinge are true rivets. Just replace those five.

No problem. Good luck with the fix. Where did you find the rivet set? Others might want to know.

I had my hinges redone by a machine shop over here.
They used oversize rivets because the links were worn as well.
Just replacing the rivets wouldn't have cut it.
They're good now though :2thumbs:

I bought mine off ebay from user name restoguygordon. I checked and he does not have any auctions going on right now. They are oversize so they will have to be fitted to be installed. I was not sure till they came if they were going to work or not.
