Almost Wrecked the 71 (pics added)
« on: October 10, 2004 - 02:01:49 AM »
It is dark outside, but I will get pics of my driveway and street tomorrow, But WOW let me tell ya.
We are in the process of selling our house and the realestate people dont like my "Junk" cars under my carport when they come. So I started the Cuda up and backed out of my steep driveway. When I tried to apply the brakes they failed and the car died. (the car has been sitting along time) and I coudnt stop. So im picking up speed down the road going backwards. My driveway just isnt steep but the road is steep too. I tried to run it up on the curb but that didnt work, I almost lost it right there. I was running out of road with my options to crash it into the woods going straight or to try to make the 90 turn going 25 plus MPH with no power steering nor brakes. I couldnt crash the Cuda so I went to try to make the turn. If I could make the turn then the next hill would have been steep enough to stop me. But I didnt make the turn. I was going too fast. halfway through the turn I went into a spin and spun all the way around and into a vacant lot. I stopped just a foot from a tree. WOOHOO what a rush. I hadnt been that scared in a long time. Since going back home was uphill I just started her up and drove her back up the hill. So the next time yall are out driving try to make a 90 degree turn going about 25 mph backwards with no braking or power steering. YIKES  :-[

Man,scary stuff!I had a similar situation happen a few years ago with a car I had just put a lot of work into and was going to sell.It was a `74 road runner, just a 318 car but I bought it for $400 and did lots of work to it.I had just got it all painted Limelight and running good and decided to take it out to meet some friends for dinner. On the way home my wife mentioned it was a little cold out and I should be carefull as there had been a quick shower earlier and it could be icy.I of course blew her off saying it was only down to 35 or 36 degreees and not to worry.  ::) Then not 1 mile later coming around a curve on a narrow side road I hit a patch of ice doing 30-35 mph.The back end of the car came around and I was all hands and elbows trying to keep from hitting a pole or a tree which of course lined both sides of the road.Somehow I saved it after swerving back and forth 3 or 4 times and continued home at a very slow pace.My wife didn`t say a word till we got home but she reminds me of that night anytime she has to tell me to slow down and now I listen. ;D Isn`t adrenalin a good thing Burpin as it lets you do things you couldn`t normally?
