anyone rearends sittin in there car crooked,  i just noticed mine is crooked since i lowere the car  its noticiable....

Like side to side crooked or front to back crooked (ie, does the tire on one side sit closer to the outer quarter than the other side, or does one tire sit closer to the front of the car than the other side?

my measurement from the front of the tire to the quarter in quite abit diff...and u can tell by lookin at it from side stance....my pass side tire is shifted back toward the rear bumber...just looks dumb...the other side is dead on centered in the wheel housing....what can i do?

Just foolin,     I'd imagine a thrust alignment would take right good care of it :2thumbs:

are the springs the same length from the hangar to the center bolt \?
 , it could be a poorly installed 1/4 panel & would start cchecking from the frame locations

I ran into the same problem... both sideways and front to back difference...  tuned out I have a b-body rear and the person who installed it used the original springhangers and relocated the saddles on the axle, instead of using a spring relocation kit.  Needless to say he did a poor job welding the saddles back on....  :violin:

That's close to the truth.
Mine has the same problem.
When I stripped it and gave it to the body shop as a roller I told them about it and asked them to check what was bent/out of line/wrong/whatever.
They put it on their chassis alignment machine and checked right into it.
The 4 wheels were straight and square.
What the problem was is original build quality.Or lack thereof.
Bearing in mind after blasting there was NO evidence of prior damage or repair and my car had it's original paint so it was all original.
Turns out my car is 10mm (3/8") longer one side than the other :roflsmiley:
The only way you pick it is distance from tyre to front of rear wheel arch when it's fitted with tall tyres.

So in short (in my case anyway)even though something's not quite right,it's not necessarily wrong and very little you can do about it anyway :dunno:

Yep, No computer generated body seems and panel fit back then...It was actualy hands on transfer from clay model...

Today however, we are spoiled on the "Correctness" and or "Perfectness" of body panel alignment that most newer cars do not even come with adjustable doors,hoods,trunk lids, etc...

Back in the day, EVERYTHING had a little adjustment to it as everything was a little "Off"....

  • In Kansas loaded for Drive to West Coast.
There is one other possible reason and that is if the spring centre bolt has sheared and the axle has moved forward or back not having anything to locate it.   :working:
Measuring as Chryco said should give you an answer.   :cheers:

Thanks everyone.....welll my is a rallye 318 car...i dont know what the code is for a factory installed 8 34  rear...but i t could of been replaced??...as far as the pin being sheeredm, i know that isnt true cause i just installed the lowering blocks and they ride on the pin so too center the blocks and they were all there on both sides...like i said ive always thought the one side didnt look right...tire just doesnt sit in the wheel well centered...now its a problem since goin with lg dia tires and lowering it...i guess i 4 wheel thrust is in order to tell me if i need to adjust the perches or modify the quarter????... :walkaway:

This is a common condition. I developed a shim pack to correct this. These shims and adjustable strut rods are the only true way to properly correct thrust angle as well as wheelbase differences.

I found this problem in an Australian Valiant many years ago and just made up a spacer out of 1/8" plate steel, worked like a charm.   :2thumbs:

That is a nice little shim pack, GMDT.  I once saw a tech article on squaring up a Mopar. They welded the front spring eye hole on one side then filed it on the opposite side to move the spring 1/4".  There are already some reinforcement plates made for the e-body front hangers that could be used but not as simple to install.

gmmachinedartgt,.....how many shims can one stick in between there?....im out quite a bit as my 4 wheel thrust alighment told me....My first idea was to drop the rearend and relocate the spring plate pinhole.....but i have to move my rearend a solid 1/4 to 1/2 inch....i cant see how you could add that many shims to make up that kinda change...am i wrong here in my thinking then?.....just cant see how u could physically jam that many shims in there ya know

How long did you drive this car with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch offset back on one side?  Seems it would of just chewed the tire tread off real quick if that were right.  And is it possible that maybe someone changed out a leaf spring? If they didn't use an e body leaf spring, then the center pin location would be in the wrong spot for the perch. A bent strut rod up front will change the chassis squareness. Also has the car been hit or screwed with on the frame?  Rear hangers the same length?
